Just weighing up basic lighting for CR750 Rep and looking to fit the most discreet lighting as possible - probably projector type (as MarkCR has). For the purpose of the MOT, do I need a high beam or can I get away with just the low beam? Its only going to be used as daytime running light.

You need a High beam to pass a MOT, I did explain this to Mark when i was advising on the lights. If you go for a day time only, then you will have to put a running light on after ;)

things may have changed by now but i mot'd my tl125 for daytime use only with no lights at all. i wired in a brake light afterwards just to be on the safe side..

When I put my ZXR400 track bike on the road I took it to the MOT station with a brake light fitted, he made me disconnect it and tape it over before he would pass it with a daytime MOT, I had declared all the mods to MCE insurance, I rode it for a few days post MOT and then my insurance papers arrived stating “no modifications “, called MCE “oh no we can’t insure you if it originally had lights “ , bloody idiots, anyway long story short I cancelled, got a refund and apology, I then couldn’t find anyone to insure me at a sensible price so I put the road fairings/lights etc back on and got a normal MOT/insurance.
The only way to do this properly is to fit a projector with a dip beam facility and then get a full/normal MOT, otherwise you’ll run into insurance problems, I insured my CR with Bennett’s, they used their “chopper and custom bike” policy because of the amount of modifications, pretty much the only unmodified part on the bike is the front wheel hub, and even that has an extra disc bolted to it!😄

Whats the cost of the insurance Mark - at the moment its insured on the same policy as my other bikes but for fire, theft and accidental damage

This year I went with Footman James, agreed value 4.5k, mileage limit 3k, £152.00, didn’t shop around as I’ve always had good service with this company.
I’m hoping this thread doesn’t turn into one of those, “well I only paid £12.60 for my Brough Superior and that’s with an agreed value of 250k, and I’m insured to ride into volcanoes etc etc” 😄
PS when I first insured it with Bennett’s it was just under 200 but with no “no claims” of course as I used that on one of my other bikes.

I think with all the brake mods - twin discs and conversion to cable, I think I prefer to have it checked out Julie

Yep, that makes sense to me Phil. I also think it's a good thing to have a record of the bike since you built it on the MOT / DVLA system for future reference. We never know what the 'authorities' will bring in next to justify their existence ;D ;D ;D I also see it as the start of a new history of the bike.

Some time off hearing those pipes I'm afraid - got to sort baffles otherwise I'll be paying for replacing the neighbours windows! And MOT!

That was going to be my point Phil, did you actually need an MOT ref the bikes age, take your point re the check over though.
