Title: Carb balancing kit
Post by: Orcade-Ian on January 11, 2018, 03:37:15 PM
Hi folks,
I’ve always used a single gauge with a changeover valve to set my carbs which takes away the possibility of gauge error but is obviously a PITA on four and six pot bikes.  Anyway, as I’ll be applying for 3 year driving licences next year I decided to take the plunge and buy a 4 gauge kit off t’internet.  I contacted the seller to see if they had any M5x0.8 adaptors for our bikes as the kit was only listing M6 stuff - they didn’t.  As I are a ingineer I decided to buy one anyway as I could easily make the necessary changes.

The kit arrived safely and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were in fact the correct long and short adaptors to fit the 400/4. I have pointed this out to the company (http://www.autotoolsdirect.com) and said they might be losing sales from folks like us who think they won’t fit.  They will change their listing (assuming they have the wherewithal to measure what’s contained in the kit)

Hope this might help other forum users -  I posted in this section as I don’t know what thread size the other fours use but everything I have uses M5x0.8, including the Wings.

I thinks these kits are just bought in from China and the less than perfect Info has just been copied over to the eBay listing - still no excuse though, I would agree.  The dampers seem to work OK with a double O ring arrangement and a fine thread.  I made my own damper for the original single setup from a block of alloy with a hole through for the vac pipe, there is then another threaded hole at right angles to that with a ball bearing which can be screwed down to restrict the pipe diameter.  If these prove unsuitable I’ll revert to that system on all four.
