Will be interesting to see what this sells for...what a find..(look past the bits that are incorrect, number 31 off the line!!!)

No 31... I wonder how many they made a day when they first started manufacture... would be nice to know.. was it made before the first coffee break.... or did it come along after lunch 😄

Yep, and there's plenty not right with that bike. So far I've spotted:
Later airbox
Single cut fender
None rolled rear rim
M/C cap wrong
Wrong mirrors
Later HM300 pipes
Wrong side cover emblems
Tacho looks like a diecast not sandcast
Difficult to tell from the pics - but she's been messed with for sure.

its been said that honda was originally gonna make 1500 cb750's year ;) but that was to be increased to 1500 a month as demand was so great world wide probably thats why we did not have any until january 1970 :(
so apart from the low frame # you cant say its even a rare bike ;D but still nice to know that the prices are still on the up init james :-*

Also a healthy oil leak from the head, lol at one of the photos a bit of j-cloth in place to catch drips as it has soiled the carpet while on the side stand.
I know from experience that it will be the rubber pucks under the cam going hard and no longer sealing.
Still, worth doing if you had any money left after purchasing and putting the pipes, mudguard etc right.

From what I know Honda planned initially to make 25 units /day but only actually achieved 5. By the time the 750 reach the UK and was displayed at the Brighton Show the factory was supposedly producing them at a rate of one every three minutes.
The green Brighton Show bike I recently discovered was featured in a BBC TV programme broadcast on 28th February 1969 called 'Wheelbase' which was the forerunner to 'Top Gear'.

I must say that bike would be of zero interest to me, i buy to ride and the one I’ve just pulled apart in the garage looks to be in better nick at a fraction of the price. These “sand casts” seem to be strictly for the serous collector these days if the ebay values are anything to go by.... Each to his own i guess...

Totally get where you're coming from Rob. I'm frankly amazed that someone's bid that amount based on the description, lack of detailed photos (especially the engine / frame number) and the obvious non-correct parts. Someone must want this one badly...and technically the Sandcast engine cases are far inferior to the later diecast engines.

I can see the appeal of the low frame number, but it can never be anything other than a museum piece can it?. Could it be an investment in the long run at that price?

You certainly would not use it as a daily rider
Plenty of people collect bikes and the sandcast is high on the collectors list just like the early Z1 and many other bikes
To some people that money is peanuts

It must've been parked in the sun a long time for the tank to fade enough for them to describe it as orange.
Super low number, though, someone will pay daft money for that.

BTW: downpipe clamps on head are not the early fat ones.

Whenever super low mileage classic cars come up for sale, usually at super premium prices, it seems there is usually an untold back story behind that low mileage, often involving a blow up or serious accident, followed by years of legal argument, until the car is forgotten about locked up in a garage somewhere.
One case in point was Vic World's pre production CB750, which sat in the back of a dealers for decades once they had realised that standard gaskets wouldn't fit to stop an oil leak.

The wrong parts can easily be Corrected then what a nice early bike

*Re: More Photos or better Quality - As per request I have added 12 new photos showing the condition of the pipes, areas of paint damage, Engine stamp, VIN Stamp, Fuel Tank, Front Sprocket (counter-shaft) and chain where it enters the engine. They show all her blemishes, including ones I previously was not aware of.
*Re: History and Condition - The VIN Number is CB7501000031- it is stamped into the frame. The Engine Number is 66, Frame number is 31. Based on research from Sandcastonlydotcom I speculate that the bike was built before 7/22/1969 (E71) and assembled and shipped to the USA for sale by November of 1969. No documents of the original sale exist. The bike was acquired in 1973 by the dealership after the owner brought it in for repairs. The owner of the bike chose to trade it in instead of having it repaired. It spent from the summer 1973 to the spring of 1997 in our dealership warehouse when it was moved to the show room floor. It has been there ever since. The bike has 4271 original miles on it.
The bike has had some repairs done to it - the Front fender was replaced and also the airbox cover with 1969/1970 CB750f Parts. At some point the alternator cover began leaking oil and JB weld was used to seal the leak. There are numerous scratches and the paint has suffered fading and chipping, especially in areas near joints such as the threads and welds where the mirrors and signal lights attach. The glass of both gauges have cracks. The fuel tank was stored empty but some rust has accumulated but the integrity of the tank is good.
*Re: Fuel Tank - Could not determine true volume but presumably 19L or 5.0 US Gallons as specified by online sources. The Tank lacks the throttle cable impressions that were added in later CB750 models.
As before the winner of the auction is responsible for transport and delivery, It is not possible for us to ship this bike.

I don't believe the story... for so many parts been replaced at 4000 miles not really consistent with an accident

For all my harumphing about the wrong bits (having spent years at the back of a Honda dealer's workshop, I guess some bits will probably have been robbed as needed for customer bikes) I wish I'd had the chance to buy one with such a low number. (Says a man who owned an early CB750 when it was just another used bike in the 70's then swapped it for a Norton, see another thread).
I notice that as well as being in a different place to later bikes, which I know is correct, the horn body is made of a grey plastic. I remember reading about grey plastic parts on the pre production bikes, Vic World's 'untouched' sandcast has a black horn body. Interesting....

I never believe the mileage on any old bike especially when there almost 50 years old.
My green 750 has done almost 90,000 but according to the speedo that I changed its done 24,000 and with its half assed restoration and the lack of me keeping it clean it's now got the patina of a 46 year old low mileage bike.

It is always hard to believe old bikes with low mileage .usually when they have all original parts that usually helps out the story
I have my self a lovely 9000 mile F1 to restore it came to me with all its original parts and most of the bolts have never been undone and have the yellow markings on them, the chrome has tarnished though

I’d say the rev counter isn’t a sandcast part looking at the gear on backside.
