Title: TEC Rear Shocks
Post by: AshimotoK0 on April 19, 2018, 07:40:04 AM
Anyone have experience of TEC shocks sold by a guy in the NE ?

I saw some in the flesh at Stafford quite a few years ago for a CB250K and they looked a bit ropey in the chroming department but Trigger showed me some CB500/4 ones a year or so back (not sure of the origin of his) and they looked spot on.

I need them for a bike I am moving on so not worried about originality other than they are the same style as OEM (ie chromed not black)

I've bought two pairs over the past 2 years for the 400/4 and the CB250RSA. I first looked at them from the guy that sells them in the south of England, he's a TEC rep. They looked OK although some of the chrome on the springs is as you say, a bit ropey but not on all of them and the shock body is fine. I order a set from TEC themselves and the set sent were fine. The set I bought for the RSA I bought from Kempton, the chrome wasn't good on the springs on the first set offered and I rummaged through the others and found a really nice set.
To be fair to TEC they do provide excellent after sales and are very helpful if you call them. The shocks are Australian made apparently to a Koni design? For me they are a bargain,  they work well and are not the usual ugly looking poor quality Chinese pogo sticks.

Got a pair on my 750, the attachment of the top mounting eye isn't quite right but noone other than me has noticed. The chrome is good.

Can't fault the hadling though, and I do try hard to upset it. :)

I'm using a pair on my CB350F.

The look correct, have the correct dimensions and work at least as well as the originals and better than the old worn out originals that I took off.

I'm very happy with them.

I bought a pair about 2 years or so ago for my Hinckley Bonneville. Initially I was pleased and the handling was good but after about 9 months they gave up the ghost and lost all damping. I returned them under warranty and got replacements but they too lost all damping after a similar time so I binned them. Don’t know if that was a specific issue with the type I bought or a wider issue but obviously I’d be wary of buying another set. I have fitted them in the past to a couple of sohc bikes but never used them enough or had the bikes long enough to ascertain whether they lasted.

I have fitted them on my bike and were a huge difference from the previous ones on the bike. Not sure if the old ones were stock or replaced at some time but were very hard on there lowest setting. For the price the TEC ones seem good quality and have been experimenting with setup and can notice the difference between settings.

If I was to buy again I would look at YSS shocks but thats just because I prefer the look of the black shock.

For the money I don't think you can expect ohlins. If you did the mileage (unlikely on an old classic) to wear them out you'd just buy another pair.
