Title: Trying to identify the model of bike for this tank
Post by: davidrsmith on April 21, 2018, 10:06:20 PM
Hi

I have a CB550K3, a while ago BryanJ gave me another tank which to all intents and purposes looks like a K3 tank, and fits on the bike well.
However the petrol tap has two outlets and these are vertical from the bottom of the petcock, the problem is that my carbs only have one petrol inlet and the vertical distance between the bottom of the petcock outlet and the top of the carb inlet is very small, and with the backing plate that holds the four carbs together in the way I'm fairly certain the fuel isn't flowing properly because I can't get a smooth bend in the fuel pipe.

The original K3 petcock has one outlet which comes out horizontally.

I want to get a 'K3' type petcock for the new tank but the I really need to identify the type of bike the tank came off (Bryan is unsure). The K3 petcock  is a different thread size to the one on the new tank, the new one is has a 24mm nut, I measured the thread and it is 19mm, I assume this is 18mm + 1mm thread depth.

Anyway attached are a couple of photo's of the new tank and its petrol cap which may help to identify which model of bike it was originally fitted to.

Many thanks
Dave

Difficult to be sure which, but it looks like a 550F1 or F2

Could be F1, F2, F3 or K3. They had different filler caps, depending on the country. Just change the fuel tap  ;)

Hi

That is what I would like to do, I cannot find one for sale that has the right size nut/thread with a single side outlet,
If anyone has one or knows where I can purchase one, I would be grateful.

Many thanks
Dave

Most were fitted this this type, you will have to check the size >>>https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-FUEL-PETROL-TAP-18mm-x-1-00mm-ON-OFF-RES-WITH-6MM-RIGHT-HAND-OUTLET/301991295699?epid=1130568086&hash=item4650157ad3:g:GMYAAOSwZlZaCfHH
