I've just fitted new pistons and a rebored set of barrels , what is the recommended run in program for this.

Well 2 days and not one opinion on running in , so in typical form of being an Engineer I have made up my own so maybe someone will give me an opinion. First 100 miles gently up and down the gears keeping the bike below 5 grand , up a thousand every 50 mile until about 500. , change oil and filter and retorque head , does that sound like a plan.

All depends on what work has been done. If all the gearbox is original and no bearings have been changed then, just start it up and run it in the fresh air. The cooler the air moving across the fins, the better.
If you have it sitting on a bench while, you try and fiddle to get it running right then, the engine will overheat.
Keep it below 5 grand for the first 100 miles and then increase the load. These little 400's like to go.
Don't worry about retorquing the head, it is not a high compression piston.
Change oil and filter after 500 and reset the tappets. I always set the tappets on a rebuilt engine a little lose, because i like the valve to meet the seat.

Sorry, missed this post. 100 miles (edit...typo there, 500 miles) sensible up to 5k rpm in nice cool conditions and then change oil, adjust tappets etc. Then if all sounds and feels ok, ride it as you would do normally.

Thanks for the advice took the bike out today over to the Isle of Bute unfortunately on the news at the moment, but the bike didn't miss a beat I took it gradually up and down 6-6.5 revs covered 200 miles I will build it up over another couple of hundred miles which will only take me a few days I gave it the odd 8.5 for overtaking I also am a believer in not over running in piston rings . I will change the oil and filter at 500 and it is good to go.

I will do the tappets at 500 but if you dont think its worth torquing the head that will save me the chance of stripping any rocker bolts .
