Title: Front muguard mounting question
Post by: sye on October 18, 2018, 04:42:04 PM
I'm a bit confused and either have the wrong front mudguard and forks on my 500 K1 or DSS have made a mistake? The bracket and stay mounts on my bike all use M6 bolts with the front brake mount using an M8. On the DSS side they list a 750 K2 mudguard as a replacement and state that it uses an M10 instead of M8 mounts on one side and to consider using washers.

Mine uses all M6 for mounting is this correct or do I have the front end off a C90?  :-\

They mean that the holes are bigger so you need to use a washer

The Mudguard is not original to your bike. You can use a rubber mount PN 40513 310 000 and a tophat washer PN 40514 310 000 or as Bryan said, a washer  ;)

500s had the 6mm clearance hole. 550s had the guard rubber mounted with the larger holes in the stays and one side of the bracket. The rubber mounts and tophat washers will set you back over £40 at DSS!

M6 is correct.
As Bryan and Trig have said, just use washers.  In restoring my 500K1 (AUS) I bought the DSS mudguard as well, and used suitable washers.

Thanks everyone, washers seem to be the answer.

Whilst I'm here, there's a guy on Fleebay who is based in Vietnam and sells mudguard copies. Anyone used him?

Now then, it seems that CB550 front mudguards are still available and it certainly looks very similar. Does anyone know if they fit the 500? Different part number but sometimes it means nothing?
