Avon Speedmaster and SM.

I have found them to be very good at sticking to the road.

I used a waterproof cover for my bike outside.  It make it go rusty.  Now I protect my bike with oil and grease and it sits in an archway which keeps off most of the rain and there is plenty of ventilation  ;D

I don't use sat nav.  I am old fashioned and prefer to tape a route card to my petrol tank, and see where things take me.

But surely there's too much wind noise to take a call on a bike?

Don't be tempted to use a readily available 5w bulb in there, because there's a danger of overheating and melting the plastic warning light unit.

Honda use a 3.4w bulb (part number 34902-259-003) which is the correct and safe fitment.

Hope this helps

Skoti

That is a really good point and I bet that's why my friend had trouble.
I do keep toying with the idea of fitting the oil warning light as that does worry me occasionally.  Having a lower wattage bulb or LED is a great idea.

but do make sure the insulation is in good condition.  In the 1980s my friend melted his wiring harness and the short originated in the light cluster in the handlebars.  I had to do a lot of chopping out and rewiring to get everything working again.  It is a bit of a design weakness having the cluster made of metal; I haven't got mine connected at all.

I am sorry to be repeating myself but when my brakes stop squealing, it tells me they need adjusting.  They seem always to squeal and always have for the last 30 years, unless they aren't working properly.  I find it reassuring now and am completely used to it.  I do not believe there is anything that can be done.

I do accept however that having not heard yours, maybe your bike is an excessive offender, but generally speaking, it is a feature one learns to live with.

I'm shocked how much these badges are now.  I've got various ones that I chucked into one of my toolboxes, might have to dig them out.

Thank you Bryan,

If it isn't essential, I am happy to run without it, especially as I keep my chain and sprockets in good order.  Thank you for confirming what I thought.

Steve

Thank you, yes, the problem is the second tab where it bolts to the casing is broken which is why it is floating around.  I think I'll put it back together without it in the meantime and try and source another one as soon as I can.  I have seen a replacement cover on ebay for £75 but there is no way I can afford that.  Hopefully someone can supply the bits separately, although, evidently, not DS.

Changing my clutch cable this weekend, I found the steel guide plate inside the sprocket cover is bent and won't sit in the correct place.  When I got the cover back on the guide catches the drive chain.

My question is, can I just remove the guide and run it without  Has anyone done this and found it is fine?

Thanks,
Steve

I used to frequent a friendly bike shop that let me go round the back and measure cables and find something that would fit.  It was usually something off a motocross bike that would do the job.  Sadly, no longer trading.

Anyway, I think Ted is sending me something so thank you all for your advice.
