CB750 / How long have I been in this coma?
« on: October 04, 2015, 09:11:06 PM »
I have obviously been unconscious for many years, what year is it now? 2035?,  I remember these selling for thousands less in 2015, that's the last time I remember looking at CB750 prices before whatever happened, erm, happened.

CB750 / VIN number question
« on: July 11, 2015, 06:09:17 PM »
I have noticed a difference between the way my VIN number is stamped on the frame and the way it appears in my log book, stamped on the frame the first 5 digits are CB750K then a dash, then  seven numerals, however in the log book it is printed CB750 then a dash then seven numerals, so they match apart from the K which is missing on the printed log book, please could someone have a look on their bike and log book and tell me if that is normal, cheers Mark.

CB750 / CR750 first ride
« on: July 09, 2015, 08:15:50 PM »
I rode my CR for the first time today (actually its not a CR lookalike yet, it's in MOT trim, lights indicators etc, looks a bit odd as you can see below!), anyway once it's MOT'd it's remove the road bits, refit the fairing for a final check of fit, then the tank, seat and Fairing go off to the paintists).

First impressions;
Fuelling is pretty close, no flat spots, nice burbling backfires on the throttle down, I'll probably lose that once I've got the fuelling bang on , shame really.
Front forks way too soft, need some progressive springs.
Sounds glorious, took it on a few country roads and it was intoxicating, had to reign myself in a bit  :).
It's quicker than I thought it would be, probably due to losing all that weight (the bike not me).
Handling feels pretty neutral but I will wait until I've firmed the front up before pushing it too much.
Front brakes are very good!, I was surprised because I'd read that the dual disc set up didn't massively improve the brakes, that's wrong it definitely does, and no squeals, yet!.
Nothing fell off!, right hand footrest/rearset need a tweak but that's probably me forgetting to tighten it in the first place.
Got to the MOT station and they'd double booked so it's now booked in for 10am tomorrow, wish me luck!!!!!.
PS insurance was £261 fully comp with Bikesure, that is for a custom bike policy which allows any modifications (apart from engine tuning, but they don't class non standard air filters and 4 into 1 as tuning), I couldn't be bothered to shop around and thought that not a bad price considering almost any mod is allowed.

CB750 / Oil pipe wanted
« on: May 19, 2015, 04:44:32 PM »
Goodridge make exactly the 12/13mm internal bore reinforced black braided pipe that I need for my CR oil tank feed to engine, its called 210 series, I currently have black rubber cotton reinforced pipe fitted but one of the bends is a little tight (my oil tank isn't fitted in the standard position so the bend required is slightly tighter than OE) and I'm concerned that it could kink cutting off the oil supply to the engine, trouble is the only supplier I can find for the goodridge hose is Demon Tweeks and their minimum order is £40, I only need a piece about 14 inches long so I'm loath to pay £40!, does anyone have an off cut they want to sell, or an alternative?, the main requirement is that it is reinforced so that it resists kinking, cheers Mark.

CB750 / Fuel stabiliser
« on: May 18, 2015, 04:19:48 PM »
This stuff seems to work, I added some to the fuel when I last ran the engine about 3 weeks ago,  I just checked the accelerator pump jets before starting, all squirting nicely, started straight away, I got it on eBay.

CB750 / Removing ignition switch
« on: May 06, 2015, 06:00:10 PM »
I have asked this before but can't find the old post with the answer, I want to take the ignition switch off my CR replica but will be using lights and indicators (detachable) when on the road, I have a battery isolator switch so I don't really need an ignition switch, I think the advice I was given before was "connect the red and black wire together and connect the brown wires to each other", please could someone confirm if this is correct?, cheers mark.

CB750 / Isn't modern fuel rubbish!
« on: December 30, 2014, 06:59:11 PM »
After a break of a few weeks (more like 3 months!) I managed to get myself back into the garage today to continue work on the CR replica, wouldn't start, not a glimmer!, plugs wettish, big spark, I drained a little fuel from a float bowl, it looked a bit brown, drained a bit from the tank, it looked a bit yellowish brown, drained the float bowls and tank, got some new fuel, started straight away, then No1 cylinder stopped firing, took the float bowl and main jet out, sprayed everything with carb cleaner, re-assembled, No1 cylinder firing again :), then No3 and 4 cylinders went down :-\, so tomorrow I will take the carbs off and give them a good clean, I know I shouldn't have left fuel in the bike but approx 12 weeks jeez!,I remember a few years ago kicking over a moped that had been stored in a neighbours shed for 10 years, it started immediately, no chance of that happening if it had had this rubbish that were are now sold in the tank.
Has anyone used a fuel stabiliser additive?, any good?.

CB750 / Kickback show
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:56:50 PM »
I went to the custom show at Donington today, here's a photo of a nice CB based bike, I met Henry Cole from the motorbike show, genuinely nice guy (love or hate his shows!), here's a shot of his land speed record attempt bike that he's taking to Bonneville next August.

CB750 / OOPS!, new k7 loom required
« on: September 20, 2014, 04:27:29 PM »
Well I thought things were going a little too smoothly ???, virtually ready for the MOT, but.............. I just fried the loom, the green wire that leads from the regulator rectifier plug and up into the main loom plus the red and white wire that leads to the starter solenoid, both completely trashed with not a lot of insulation left on them!.(quickly hitting the battery isolator I had fitted stopped it getting worse)
You may recall that I said I didn't know much about electrics, well I certainly proved it today!.
I had everything working that's the strange thing, lights indicators, horn the whole lot, all I did today was fit and connect the rear brake light switch, it's not part of the loom that fried (and I had previously jumped that connection with a slave wire just to check that the brake light worked, it did) so I don't think its the cause, I connected the battery to check the brake light switch worked and instantly got lots of smoke!!!!.
Anyway no point crying over spilt milk and instead of trying to repair this loom I want to fit a new one (it was generally in poor condition), does anyone know of a good supplier (hopefully UK)?, I would prefer a new loom rather than salvaged (DK have a salvaged item but it looks trashed, smashed plugs etc).

EDIT, I think I know what I did wrong, I think I may have crossed over the connections when I put the battery on, schoolboy error to say the least, I cant be sure because after flicking the isolator I took the battery off, but I've got an nasty feeling that's what I did, doh!.

CB750 / Wiring questions
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:05:58 AM »
So far the headlight works high and low beam & sidelight, all 4 indicators work and all the idiot lights work except the oil light, the tail light also works,  the stop lamp switches work, start button works and engine kill switch, but the horn and headlamp flash don't work, there are 2 wires from the nearside switchgear that I can't find a home for, one is blue/brown and the other is black, see picture below, does anyone know what these wires are for ?, also breaking out of the main loom next to the coils are 3 wires, the light and dark green wires have my original label from when I stripped the bike that says "horn" but the black wire doesn't have a label, it is live with the ignition on but I can't see what it should connect to?, any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers Mark.

CB750 / Accelerator pump stopped working
« on: September 11, 2014, 06:36:00 PM »
When I first got my donor bike the accelerator pump worked, but recently I noticed that it had stopped doing so, reading various threads pointed towards the one way valves in the carb castings , I bought a new diaphragm and had a go at it today, it turned out to be a blockage in one of the fuel channels in the accelerator pump body, the only part of the carbs that I hadn't disassembled and cleaned, can't think why it got blocked, I mean look how beautifully clean the old diaphragm was!!!! :o:)

CB750 / Wiring in headlamp bowl photos?
« on: September 11, 2014, 06:22:57 PM »
Does anyone have a photograph of the wiring inside the headlamp bowl on a 77(ish) CB750, I did label all of the connections when I stripped the donor bike but over the last year some have dropped others have become illegible, cheers Mark.
