Got all the bits I need,

Since I have to get rig of the original switch gear I bought a new twist grip that should be a direct replacement and the original cables should fit in.

Now my question is as I need to go the same with the clutch and put a solo lever, would it work any? I don't want to have to put custom cables... So if anyone knows of a clutch lever that I can still put my original cables in please let me know!

MOT done! Next step is filling up the v55 and sending all the paperwork to the DVLA and get the precious v5.

No pics yet! As I dropped the bike to the garage to have the carbs set up straight away from the MOT.

Exciting times!

I will post a video of it running this Saturday!

Still got a few things to sort out

- HT lead from cylinder one is too short I think I will need to put a new coil as I'm it sure that only the cable can be changed.

- carbs synchronizing

- find out if there is something wrong with my clutch because it is very stiff/heavy

- there is a noise from the front right fork... I have no idea what is it.

But good enough to pass the MOT send all the papers to the DVLA and hopefully have a v5 and a age related reg in two weeks!

I still have work to be done on the bike... Like handlebars, installing mini switches... Etc

Hi Bryanj,

I asked the Seller of the switches and he said that with one is enough for the toggles, I found some more info in another forum and found the below schematic set up, it is not the same that I need but similar, there is a toggle there and it only have one relay.

Now I'm doubting!!

Saves one having to set up an array of conventional relays...

I wanted to install the m-unit since I was re wiring the bike, but it is out of the budget for now, it is cheaper to put 4 relays than a m-unit.

But it is in the to do list for next winter.

I am too far away to help but we should be able to sort you out anyway.

Basically you need to connect 86 (coil) to an earth and switch the other coil connection (85) with the little switches. You then use terminals 87 and 30 to replace the contacts on the old switches. I would need to look at the actual switching arrangement on the 500/550 to work out the relay combination you require

So I would need 4 of those one for each button, are the standard relays?

That relay Wouk work for the switch that have 2 connectors but what about the toggle? It have three connectors...

I found this on eBay which is quite good.

I can use this set up:

Left hand: toggle on-off-on (indicators) + push button (horn)

Right hand: Off-On-On Toggle switch (Off-Low Beam-High Beam) + push button start.

I will be losing the kill switch do you know if it's mandatory in the UK?

Hi all,


I want to replace the stock switchgear for the small switches of the pictures below, since it's all in one I would need also to put a new lever set including master cylinder and throttle grip.

I have no idea how to start with it. In each set there is a toggle on-off-on and a push momentary button... Only works while pressing it.

This switches can handle up to 4 Amps.

I thought about having the following:

Left hand switch - toggle for the indicators and ouch button for the horn

Right hand switch - toggle for hi/Lo beam and push button for the start

Would it work like this?

Due to the Amps that this switches can handle do I need to install relays? What kind? Where can I buy them?

Is there anyone that can guide me step by step on this? I live in Henfield West Sussex I can also pay someone to help me out doing this?

I would appreciate any help! Thanks!
