No the F2 heads have lots of differences and the block has 2 of the oil drains unused with the casting different to block them off at the base.
Incidentally the F1 has the "old" cases without the extra added to allow the bigger final drive bearing, but I believe the rest of the internals are basically the same as the K7. This is why I initially queried the primary drive ratio as I'm mixing and matching bits between them.

I was always of the impression that the F1 and K7 were sisters so to speak with the F2 being the odd bod with different head and block. I feel one of my head aches starting now  :'(

From that then I have to assume that the book is wrong as it quotes the F2 and K7 as being the same ratio as Sandcast-K6 at 1.708:1 and only the F1 at 1.985:1.

I have read a reference, in the book by Peter Shoemark, that the F1 had a different primary drive ratio to all the other models. Having compared part numbers between F1, F2 and K7 I can't see any differences that would allow this. Can anyone shed any light on this for me.

I now use an impact driver with a hex bit. So far has never let me down, (need some wood to touch).

Out of interest how did you retain the F1 engine sprocket as they have the splined tab with 2 bolts in the groove machined into the output shaft?

Firstly I can't answer as to whether these numbers are original, however the V5 will show what ever engine number is provided either on original registration by a dealer or a subsequent updated number after an engine swop with the number provided by the keeper at the time. So from the V5 you can't tell if the engine is original or not. Unless of course there is a large difference in manufacturing dates. And yes they most definitely do make mistakes. What prefix is on the registration plate?? That's the big clue as to the correct year. I think July 71 was J and March 74 on an M.

Yes I agree it was perhaps the poor choice of words used that generalised and alienated a large section of people and on reflection I apologise for my reaction.
But back on the subject, I believe that we will soon see the bottom fall out of the classic bike market. The market place for these is at the top end of the age range as we don't seem to get the interest in classic bikes, or even bikes in general from many younger people. Hence we find fewer people are owning more bikes and because of this each bike is doing less miles. We are in the last of the golden years for petrol heads as pretty soon the self driving electric powered plastic bubble will become the form of transport. Just to back this up the French are proposing the end of petrol and diesel driven cars by 2040 and that's not far off. No doubt others will follow and we'll be back to buying petrol from a chemist soon. (Wonder if my prescription pre payment certificate will work for that).

I have the phone for Roger a superb engineer in Huddersfield. He is a Beemer man and does a lot of work reclaiming knackered parts by having them built up with weld and re machined. PM me if you want his dets.

This is a super little bike. I always thought it looked so much better than the Super Dream and could never understand why it was dropped after one season. As I recall it had the comfiest seat ever and felt bigger than a 250 to ride.

Actually looking again, the cover behind the headlamps is missing, (it was made from cheap tat), but would explain why the ignition switch is moved.

Who cares what other people do with their own property, it's up to them. My mate has several bikes he never rides, but that's cos he's too old and can hardly walk never mind ride. He loves his bikes and enjoys them for what he has left. Leave him alone, when you get like that you just might have a different outlook on what you have in your garage. Or will you sell your bikes to "young" people so you can sit in your high chair whilst waiting for the health visitor to call in and wipe you clean, cos that's what you're saying to me.
