Hi I have just bought a 400 F2 and I am looking forward to riding it around the country lanes around here as it is a bit lighter than my 750 which I've had for 27 years, but before that I've got to service it and clean the carbs out, this is where I need a bit of advice as one of the valve Tappet covers is stuck and one of the spark plugs has been cross threaded, I've ordered a sealy reverse thread chaser for the plug hole but I've not used one before so I am a bit nervous about using it, can anyone recommend someone who could give me a bit of advice how to use it and how to remove the stuck Tappet cover a its already mangled. Hi Neil from another 400four owner.
If it's mangled and needs replacing then best chisel it in an anticlockwise direction. They get stuck because people insist on tightening them up until their spanner bends. They only need nipping up a bit. I've got a few second hand ones if you're stuck.
A photo would go down well, we don't even know what colour it is - Parakeet Yellow or Candy Antares Red?

Hi Neil and welcome to another 400/4 owner, they must be breading in the summer sunshine. There's a thread on here about a plug chaser although not the Sealey one you have. Sorry I can't post the thread on here at the moment, my phone is about to die!

Nothing like each other! Julie has a non standard front brake hose, and the side panel decals on both bikes are different for a start! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes Hairy but you need to clean your glasses as you missed the non standard rear indicator brackets in mine !!!.
I'm not into originality on my CB400, its functionality and rideability I'm interested in.

They were just the first 2 differences that jumped out at me, plenty more, such as polished clutch casing on yours Vs painted on the other one, likewise with carb tops, but I have better things to do than play spot the difference, I have baby birds to feed and model railway track to lay! Both cracking good bikes though! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yes, feeding fledglings is a far more important and very worthwhile job.

Now that is a beautiful machine. I'll show my advanced age and reminisce that I first clapped eyes on my first Honda 400 Four around 1970 ish at a Motorbike Show at Belle Vue, Manchester, and I can still remember the curve of those beautiful exhaust down pipes, the Gold Lining on the Tank and that lovely deep dark red paint.....like it was yesterday.
Nearly as stunning as Sophia Loren....steady.......I said nearly !

The F1 (or just F model) doesn't have gold lining on the tank so I deduced MCTID was referring to the F2.

Blimey....the 'Thought Police' were down on me like a ton of bricks there ! Some of you peeps would be great working on the TV Detector Vans !
I only said '1970 ish' cos I honestly couldn't remember the exact year.......at my ripe old age, just getting the right decade is a Brucey Bonus ! I hope that you lot are a tad kinder to your Mums and Dads when you visit them in their Care Home !
I also remember a Guy who worked in the same factory coming into work one night on his brand new Honda CB750......I do know the year - but I'm buggered if I'm going to write it down - just in case another swarm of angry bees descend on my poor head. That was also another beautiful machine.......Honda had a lot to be proud about in those days (whenever they were).
