CB750 / Help! Oil issues
« on: June 02, 2023, 02:35:43 PM »
Alright guys, I need some expert help again

After a joyous few trouble free months on the old 750 bob - I finally got round to syncing the carbs and with the new points and reg/rec she's been running so sweeet... however it ended last wk after a evening ride resulted in the RAC and flatbed Greg to recover me home

15 mins into a decent duel carriageway blast I stopped at some lights, lost power and died then oil puked out from under the oil tank cap. (Not the breather)
I moped it up checked the level and still seemed good, cooled down for 10 then she fired up with no probs so I gingerly carried on and all was good, no exhaust smoke or odd engine noises. 3 miles later I stopped to check things over and the oil upwelled/puked again and had been leaking slightly.

After some thought I guessed I might have over filled as I'm running a custom tank, 2.2L but the level was good.
Next day I fired her up again and after 10mins of idling and seeing oil returning to the tank a 1st gear pootle down the road I had another look in the oil tank cap and it welled up and overspilled again.

I dropped the oil and removed the oil pump and filter and had just over 2L - I lost a fair bit when it puked each time. No bits of anything in the sump pan or pump screen. I've since checked the pressure relief valve and it's all good, not stuck and piston moving freely, likewise with the oil stopper valve.
The filter was fairly grubby and needed a change.
The feed and return lines are clear and free flowing likewise the crank case hose and the head breather hose.

I'm a bit stumped, what else should I be looking into?

CB750 / Electrex reg/rec RR24 wiring
« on: March 14, 2023, 06:07:42 PM »
I've bought the RR24 to replace a m&p eBay one that seemed unable to stay alive.

The new one came with these notes, although it's for my 750 sohc with custom loom, can anyone confirm this is cool?

It's the same as I'd wired up my previous one but just to be sure thought I stick it on here. Cheers

Morning all. Hoping someone might be able to shed some model specific light on these please. Had to rebuild them again after a leaky left one and ideally need to know how much oil they need from scratch.

It might be a bit to worn inside the case and that's my trouble, not the Pyramid oil seal... will soon see.
585mm stanchions.
Cheers

CB750 / Intake boots for roundtop carbs
« on: June 07, 2022, 06:07:01 PM »
Evening all, I've just got back from a ride and though I'm due to balance my carbs was thinking how out they've suddenly become... so after a brew and closer inspection I've got a split intake boot on no.4 and possibly 3.

Anyone got a set or recommend any sensibly priced ones please? I might as well replace them all as a set.

Cheers guys

CB750 / Help! What's caused this?
« on: March 25, 2022, 03:15:32 PM »
Hi folks, I'm properly gutted after I finally finished my k3 750 sohc, got her MOT'd and finally on the road and driving sweet. After 30 or so fairly gentle shakedown miles I decided to pop the cover and check valve clearances and re-torque all the bolts... only to discover the cam seemed off centre on the right side holder...
Low and behold the horror in the pics! I'm mortified to say the least after 2yrs of ground up build.

What could have caused this? Only a bent camshaft that I can think of as I did a full bench check to check oil circulation to the head and all metering jets were clear and oil was getting up to the journals and everywhere nicely. Was getting good running pressure with a gauge attached to the pressure sender initially and also no oil light warning (yes the pressure switch is working) when I was riding it with that back in.

The left side cam holder/journals and camshaft are fine and unmarked as was everything up there when I assembled the engine.

I can't vouch for the straightness of the camshaft when I got the bike so I guess its possible the cam had been dropped or bent and I just had a dodgy one to start with.

Not sure my best course of action now?
I'll strip all the parts off and take the cam fully off and investigate for any further damage I guess but then best case scenario is me left looking for a second hand camshaft and right side holder and journals. F**k f**k f**k!

Announcements / 750 Ignition coils
« on: January 23, 2021, 12:08:55 PM »
Watcha folks, I'm looking for a set of ignition coils for my bike, don't have a fortune to spend and want to retain the points timing. If I understand correctly it's not wise to run 3 ohm coils as they put too much strain on the charging system which is a shame as I have one new 3ohm coil and was going to get another and then the plug caps for both.

However I though I'd see if anyone has a pair of working used 5 ohm they want rid of?... or could point me to a reasonable priced new pair that would fit me.

Cheers in advance,
:)
