CB350/400 / Re: Brake Torque Arm colour
« on: May 19, 2024, 10:16:29 PM »
Just took a look at the part on CMSL ( why you not do this before I hear someone say  ;D ) It seems they start out as BZP, I can see myself stripping the paint and polishing things up, and then finding out why they end up being painted?  :-\

I'm sure it could be black or BZP, the same as the 500/550. And, it's F I remember correctly, both finishes are the same part number 🤔🤔🤔
These are the two colours I keep seeing Julie! I'm not becoming a fanatic over it, but I'm keen all the same to bring my bike close to original as I go along. Pattern parts are usually ok with me though.  ;)

CB350/400 / Brake Torque Arm colour

I'm beginning to notice the brake torque arm on the CB400F/2 in different colours in different pictures, how should the standard one be?

Humour / Re: Wife bought me some new tools.

I hope you had a hippy bathday Ted, those tools will have your engine running sweetly!  ;D

In the end only three got changed. At some point I'm going to need to take the head off again as cylinder # 4 has a scratch in it and a rebore looms, that would be a better time to deal with this.

Misc / Open / What happens if an exhaust mounting stud snaps off?
« on: May 16, 2024, 10:48:17 AM »
I took my bike in today to have the oil pump seals changed and get a set of genuine Honda exhaust mounting studs fitted to replace the rust prone homemade junk currently in place.
The mechanic had to tell me he would only try so hard if any are very stubborn, lest they snap off. If that happened where would I stand though?

That is an awful lot of grief to take Bryan, I really feel for you.

Been out to Blackheath with it's fabled Tea hut in south London. Not many bikes about today but the object of the journey was a paint drying run, I've given the engine a bit of a makeover. More work pending!  ;D

Interesting post! I can't help wondering how do they preserve a fish to go on the wall, they haven't got a pelt or something like other animals.

For a moment I wondered if it might be a valve stem oil seal and how on earth did it get there, but no. :o  Actually I think it may end up being a foreign body, not off the bike?

What is it? / Re: Mysterious Exhaust Teeth
« on: May 08, 2024, 08:12:59 PM »
A lot of the time the old copper outer exhaust gaskets set like dark concrete and look like part of the head taking severe prodding and levering to remove, many times i have found 2 gaskets in the hole!
I had to a lot of probing and exploring to satisfy myself nothing lurked in the holes, and that the cheapskate in the past had not replaced them! I hope I got it right.

CB350/400 / Exhaust studs issue
« on: May 08, 2024, 06:49:27 PM »
I thought the lengthy rust prone exhaust studs 'on the 400/4' were a buzzing fly and plain got on with it. But seeing the genuine ones on the DSS site I realise I've detected what might be another home made part some bum down the owners list added. The rear brake rod and speedo cable grommet on the front fender are other homemade things I inherited from this bodger.  ::)
These things are 2 1/3 inches long, does anyone know the length of originals?
I'll get a set somewhere along the line but at £55.00 a full set it will have to wait a month or two, other priorities first, I might take the trouble to cut these back a bit for now (maybe  :-\

No, they'll be fine George as the clamp down into the copper exhaust gaskets
Thanks Julie, point seen. Those exhaust gaskets though were one of the things that were missing when I first got Elen six years back, the teeth weren't missing like most of mine though!  ;D It took me a lot of finding out, as was the case with the starter clutch you told me I needed to get as well.  ;)
