Looking on ebay as you do, saw a 550 basket case starting at £300 and not getting any bids, so put a bid in and after a short bidding war with one other customer i won it! trouble is i am not sure what to do with it, i think it is a K3 model, but has a set of proper carbs and not the dreaded PD ones. also has some non standard forks and yolks which look a bit spindly but has twin discs, maybe a superdream or something similar. I dont think its worth restoring as a standard bike as cost will be more than its worth but was thinking about a brat bike/mongrel like the one Nurse Julie did. Or perhaps sell it on, why did i buy it!

Oooooh, I do love impulse purchases ;D ;D ;D Looks like a K frame, which is what mine is and if you have the non PD's, that is also what I have fitted but my engine now is also an F and not a K. Whats that exhaust system?, It looks the same as what Trig has fitted to his CB750/4 custom he built. You could have real fun with that Mick......I would keep it and make something different / personal out of it. Good luck.

Less than £1 per cc, always worth a punt. If it looks a bit of an oddball, so what. Everybody needs a rat bike for when the weather is shite.
Good luck throwing it together.

You could always strip and sell the bits on fleabay the seat alone looks pretty good !!!
-
Had a bit of a sort out last night and not bad. There are a couple of bits that are better than my f2 so will swap them over. Most of the bits are there, the seat is a plastic bottomed one but in decent nick the tank looks rough but pretty clean inside. Definately a k3 for the reasons stated by oddjob, and the handlebar switch wires are outside the bars and have block connectors inside the headlamp. The engine is only loosely assembled and needs some head/valve work. Problem is i cant really afford 2 bikes so will have to sell one or the other.

I would let the k3 bits go if I was you nothing but trouble 😉😉

Build it up to a complete looking bike, sell on, or just break, either way you will get your money back. Probably a bit rough to do up and make financial sence of it, though it could be the basis of a nice cheap special that can be parked outside the pub without being paranoid about theft.

ok so taking Matts advice and building it into a complete looking bike to sell on. The forks are not original and the top yoke does not fit the forks. Does anyone recognize them?
-
Forks and wheel could be wet dream or 650 top yoke i have absolutely no idea
-
Just bolt it together loosely, call it a 'project, little work needed for MOT I just don't have the time to finish' and stick a big price tag on it. That's what everyone else does! :)

400/4 top yokes on eBay look the same. What diameter forks?..the calipers resemble my unused 650 ones but would need to look in a box in the garage.
-
forks are 33mm

Bit of an update didn’t realise it was that long ago I bought this
