Title: Running without the Air filter box
Post by: Vince P on March 09, 2009, 08:50:31 PM
I've decided to run my bike without the air cleaner box using the separate cone filters instead. Because I'm removing this, will I need to add something to support the carburetors? I'm thinking yes as all that will hold them is the clamps to the head. For those that have done this any advice would be welcomed.

I've seen loads of bikes with pod filters over the years.  None ever required any extra support.

Hello Steve,

Agreed, I've seen loads of these also and have spent the last few days looking at pictures of bikes on the internet with this style setup and can see nothing. Just being a bit cautious on my end.

Thanks,
Vince P

Support wise on my cb550 was fine but starting and running were all to pot and rather than rejett I swapped back to standard after getting some new rubbers.......

Hey Matthew,

The carbs have been rebuilt from stem to stern, couple this with syncronization and adjustment when they go back on, I'm hoping it runs well. My concern was that there was not enough support now that the box has been removed.
