Title: The pipes are here....!
Post by: PHILIP2908 on September 07, 2021, 05:27:14 PM
Big present to myself; saw a set of repro exhaust pipes on the Dave Silver website last weekend with 4 sets in stock. (Another 35 sets on their way I am told). By 9.30 Monday morning this was down to 2 so I nabbed one set. £1,000 with a few bits & bobs. Wife won’t find out until month end.

This is a big shock on price as when I restored my first K2 (JGN 699N you are out there somewhere on a SORN) in about 1990 you could pick up odd pipes out of the classifieds in MCN for about £25 each. On getting a decent set together I used to squirt a bit of old used engine oil in the end after each run and they seemed to last OK.
I just realized I still need a couple of heat shields - £40 a side, connector pipe, pillion mounting bolts etc. about another £75 to the DS fund.
Have to say they look pretty well made; come with the baffle caps and the chrome is shiny but not lustrous.
Will post some piccys when they are on.
Ride safe

It’s a lot of money but the only option if you don’t want to go 4-1.

What is the DS part number? I can’t see them listed.

They have gone out of stock again but they told me that another 35 sets are due soon.
They will put you on a list to alert you by email when they come in. I have one in place for an XL250 exhaust which are very hard to get; that'll be another £320 to the Dave Silver pension fund please....

Four pipes (not candles)
I’m edging towards completion of the 750 K2; it’s taken months (getting worked to death by my employer) to get around to fitting the £1300 worth of Dave Silver 4-4 system. But now they are on it looks the D-Bs.

Bit disappointed to see that no2 pipe doesn’t quite match the route of that for no3 – it is slightly misaligned and closer to the oil filter. After 5 years, I’m now past caring and it was never going to be a concours bike anyway.

It is for me a blast from the past from when I drooled over the picture on the rear cover of the 1970 Honda brochure which featured a cool guy bumbling along the leafy lanes on a candy red K0 or K1. With my 50cc C100 step-through parked outside my parents looking at this I just dreamed the Honda Dream – the advertising is dead right

The ‘tins’ are back from the painters. You may remember I did the candy red out of aerosols; came out a bit darker than I would like and a bit scrappy in places. But it’s amazing what looks like a 2mm thick coating of 2K laquer will do; covers up all your sins and it all looks terrific.

Its running now, just have to sort the carbs and I’ll be on the road soon (said that before…..).
Cheers my dears.
[just can't gat a handle on how to insert phots in posts - so if they are in the wrong place or upside down, apologies

That’s a lovely colour and great looking bike. My new pipes were exactly the same, No 2 touching the oil filter housing.

Looking good  8) I can still remember when mine arrived and I fitted them.
Mine were still in the Yamiya box even though they were from Silver's.
