Hey all
Putting all my engine bolts (outer ones) through the wire wheel to remove rust and make them look like new. BUT - they will probably rust again in a few months I would imagine.
How do you guys treat your bolts? Zinc plate them, or?
-
Yeah, Zinc or Zinc/Nickel plate.
Or replace them with stainless steel ones.
Depends a lot Alex on what state they are in to start with.
-
They are sorta okay. It is the bolts that attaches the engine to the frame though, and I haven't been able to find stainless steel replacements for those yet (the long ones at least. Haven't looked for the short ones yet).
Is there replacement sets for the bolts attaching the engine to the frame?
-
the answer is obviously zinc plating, but when i was very short of cash, i cleaned them as you have, spray them with galv spray and let them dry. when fitting, use a good fitting socket and once it's tight, spray some galv paint into a small container and brush it on with a small brush to cover the marks left by the spanner/socket. not great, but better than bare steel which will rust within hours

Zed Parts do a complete engine mounting bolt set, including the long bolts.

Wow, hadn't seen that one. Might actually go for a set like that :)
