Title: Tytronic electronic ignition....reliable..?
Post by: Andy1488 on May 25, 2022, 11:05:24 AM
Hi....as the title states,, has anybody tried this system..?
It is from  "old-honda" who's name has been mentioned on here a few times.
I am seriously contemplating this system, so any do's/don't, tips, timing set-up etc would be appreciated.

Regards,,,,andy

So ....tectronic ignition has arrived..... do I set it on the advance,   or standard 1-4/2-3 fire marks.....?.

To much counter info going around,  and instructions are pretty carp English translation.

Seems to be the case that the electronic ignitions that incorporate the advance mechanism are set by the fully advanced marking.

As above notes from johnny4428, if it uses the original advance and retard mech (fitted with new mag centre post) to give the ignition advance, then it's the same as normal and set it to the F mark as manual description for points.

If the advance and retard mech is completely removed (then facilitated via electronic box) ordinarily they are finally checked at full advance to give final accuracy to specification.

Most fully electronic "advance" effectively works in reverse as a electronic triggering point can't be advanced (because it hasn't happened until it arrives) so is set to max advance in latency to reduce advance from that triggering point depending on rpm to give a floating low speed setting to match original setup.

not sure how your system works,   but Boyer give an approx static setting,

then advise you start it up and set at 4,500rpm using a strobe.

Thanks for all the info and replys..this system is using "original" advance unit, so I have set up to original  "F" marks statically...she runs, but I really could do with a strobe to check correctly... I know carbs etc are set as they should, but I've a feeling she's out 'due to a slight low end rumble here and there...I will persevere......thanks again people.
