Title: Airbox removal!
Post by: Matt_Harrington on June 15, 2022, 05:58:07 PM
I'm sure there is a technique to remove this over complicated contraption from the frame but for the life of me I can't see how.
I have it loose and both the air filter intake and the carb oval tube are removed as are all (?) bolts.

Anyone got any tips?

(BTW, I wanted to remove it as it is the only rusty part on the bike and I need to get some other bits powder coated. What seemed like a good idea at the time, has now escalated!!

Its almost impossible due to the fixed stud on the airbox near the bottom - but its real easy if you take out the rear wheel & the plastic half of the mudguard, likewise fitting the plastic air intake box from that end is nice and easy too. All depends how far you are stripping down.

Thanks Ted. I was hoping not to keep dismantling the bike but removing those 2 items to make the job easy is worth it.
Hopefully it won't have to come out again!!

Ted, Thank you.  It was easier than I thought it would be and with the wheel removed and plastic mudguard out of the way, it was a fairly simple task to remove the box. Fortuitous really as there were a couple of things the PO has done that were a bit 'Heath Robinson'.  :o
It's in fair nick but required a bit of gentle persuasion here and there to get it all neat and ready for coating.
