You mentioned you are running a custom oil tank, has it only happened since you fitted the custom tank? Just thinking whether tank internals affecting anythink
No the tank isn't a new addition and not had any issues with it in the past. Nice and clean inside and no blockages to report

Not a 750 expert and never professed to be but I'd be checking crankcase compression, has the vent pipe been blocked or kinked. Run it detached and see if it does it again.
No kinks or restrictions that I can see and firing on all four with power until she pukes and stumbles.. will put everything back together with fresh oil etc and see how she goes

Alright guys, I need some expert help again

After a joyous few trouble free months on the old 750 bob - I finally got round to syncing the carbs and with the new points and reg/rec she's been running so sweeet... however it ended last wk after a evening ride resulted in the RAC and flatbed Greg to recover me home

15 mins into a decent duel carriageway blast I stopped at some lights, lost power and died then oil puked out from under the oil tank cap. (Not the breather)
I moped it up checked the level and still seemed good, cooled down for 10 then she fired up with no probs so I gingerly carried on and all was good, no exhaust smoke or odd engine noises. 3 miles later I stopped to check things over and the oil upwelled/puked again and had been leaking slightly.

After some thought I guessed I might have over filled as I'm running a custom tank, 2.2L but the level was good.
Next day I fired her up again and after 10mins of idling and seeing oil returning to the tank a 1st gear pootle down the road I had another look in the oil tank cap and it welled up and overspilled again.

I dropped the oil and removed the oil pump and filter and had just over 2L - I lost a fair bit when it puked each time. No bits of anything in the sump pan or pump screen. I've since checked the pressure relief valve and it's all good, not stuck and piston moving freely, likewise with the oil stopper valve.
The filter was fairly grubby and needed a change.
The feed and return lines are clear and free flowing likewise the crank case hose and the head breather hose.

I'm a bit stumped, what else should I be looking into?

Looks good to me.

Do check that the voltage between the black at reg and battery neg is no more than 0.5 volt lower tha voltage accross battery or you will get overcharge.
Thanks Bryan will do

I've bought the RR24 to replace a m&p eBay one that seemed unable to stay alive.

The new one came with these notes, although it's for my 750 sohc with custom loom, can anyone confirm this is cool?

It's the same as I'd wired up my previous one but just to be sure thought I stick it on here. Cheers

Nick Ive buckets of the right barrel connectors for that set up if you havent got any and before you reach foir the nasty blue ended lumpy things ;)

Giz a bell when you're in, fed and watered and we can have a yap, need to run some bits passed you, when 20 questions, yer know. Re yer chopper.................yer 750 that is ::)
Cheers mate, I'm sorted for good connectors, need some 10amp yellow wire and some heat shield tho
Not sure how far back into the coils I can go to solder nice fresh wire and connectors up and out of the cover.. will see when I take the alt off I guess

So after a little more investigative work at the w/end I've discovered my alternator meter readings seem ok but my reg/rec has indeed given up the ghost.
I've taken the plunge and ordered an Electrex one, hopefully more robust than my old one.

Also one of my stator coil yellow wires was a bit corroded and blackened. Is this common and maybe indicative of shorter problem...?
I can't remember putting new bullets on when I wired up the bike a few years ago and probably should have, so I'd like to renew the connection wires from the stator & field with new wire and bullets.
Is 10amp auto wire ok for this?

Only 2 things cause overcharge
1 duff regulator

2 volt sense wire at reg showing less than battery voltage
Ok that makes sense thanks Bryan. So if I'm to replace the unit which should I go for,

Or Electrex

Read this with interest but I've a problem with overcharging. If it ain't one thing...
Anyway, fully charged new batt and getting 19v at idle. 🫣 Using an M&P parts solid state reg/rec. Was blowing headlight bulbs, led's etc so out with the multimeter...
Yet to check all the connections especially a solid earth. But suspect the reg/rec at this stage as have heard similar issues from others on various threads... what else should I be focusing on at this stage?

Tapping into all your combined wisdom, what procedure of tests would you start with. Will get some pics up of the wiring but I must say I used the original bullet connectors from the alternator into the new reg/rec and trusted all was good after initial tests, from memory the yellows all tested very similar Ohms

Not great with elecs but have the basic skills and understanding, was wondering when I'd have a leccy problem to solve with this mongrel, she's taught me a ton already and still learning... constantly
Oops should add I'm taking 750 but guess it's all vaguely similar?

It just seemed to read that way Graham, put the plate in the middle of its adjustment and then use the point gap to time it up is how I read it

Any mention of a atrobe means timing to me, dwell meter would mean gap

Maybe you should pop around and show me how to set up points. Maybe my strobe light is no good. You could advise me on if i need a Hondaman box of tricks or that i need to change to electronic ignition. while you are here you could advise me on how to rebore cylinder's, insert valve guides, change valve seats, re grind valve seats to the correct spec, skim heads, alloy weld cases and do fin repairs and so on.

I would love someone to be able come and show me how to set the points and timing properly. But if there's a good tutorial (vid or other) somewhere that can be recommended in all ears!

P.s Hackaweek was my original YouTube tutor so I used his technique

I have been looking through a ton of youtube vids on setting points and most of them are well off. This seems to be a good guide but, there is quite a few cuts, like the plate seems to move on its own at 7.20. Hope it helps >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3933ouJ1wrI&t=924s
Nice one Trigger that's a nice clear tutorial. Bonus soundtrack too

he does love me Ken, he knows it deep down! 8)

Is it the love that dare not speak its name Roo. Or it could be that all those wild oats you sowed have come back to haunt you Daddy

I hope not Roo has intimated he will be true to me - after the Long Haired General naturally.
Love is such a loose word, I prefer psychological affliction!
