CB500/550 / Re: Koni shocks - rebuild info
« on: April 02, 2024, 10:36:01 AM »
Hi All,

I got a seal kit for my Koni 7610 Dial-a-rides from these people https://www.performanceparts-ltd.com/ very helpful, kit was £37.00 in June 2023. As for oil they and Ikon suggested SAE5, I was going to use either SAE 5 fork oilor straight SAE 5 hydraulic oil (ISO VG 22), as for qauntity the attached image is what they sent me. Hope this is of use.

I recently moved from Carole Nash to Lynbrook Insurance due to a big hike in cost. Customer service was good as was the price £378 for 7 bikes ages ranging from 1950 to 1998 (Sunbeam S7 to Ducati 916 {tuned as well} plus the 500/4), all agreed value (total value £50.5K) with breakdown cover, etc. Only downside each is limited to 3,000 miles per annum but over 7 bikes that’s 21,000 which I’m unlikely to do in a year.

Belter of a 500 that, your old one looks interesting, great pipe, 'meh' on the paint front ;D

Ref the paint job it was the 70's  ;) Was a great bike, sold it and bought an XS750 didn't handle half as well as the 500, used far more fuel but was a great for touring.

They are stunning - what a work of art and level of skill to make those. Makes mechanical engineering seem easy in comparison - just 'bolting' things togeteher  ;D

It was a Yoshi sounded brilliant, it replaced a Campbell Geometrics race reverse cone mega exhaust which sounded even better  ;D but was insanely loud. Also had a Yoshi cam plus a few other mods - Dresda swingarm, Konis, Rickman rear sets, open bellmouths, 750 tank, 2-4 style seat. Should never have sold it  :(

I did this in about 1978 to my first 500, started off black and standard, but ended up like this (black base coat with mirrorflake) definitely a 70's thing! Apologies for the quality of the photo - taken with a Kodak 126 Instamatic  :) [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Out on mine today, first outing this year. Dry roads, no wind, not too cold and no salt, what more cold you want?  :) [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

That’s the phasing case of a Napier Deltic. I was responsible for the testing of 60 odd of these during my time at a test house in Leyland. It was the marine version as fitted to the Hunt class minesweepers, very noisy (>128dBA) and at times very ‘twitchy’ for a 44 litre engine but there was no flywheel!  Beast of an engine but certainly interesting to test 😊

Hi,

Not as far north as the Orkney Islands but weather and roads on Syke have been wonderful last week and another week of holiday remaining so fingers crossed for good weather. Been doing the highlands every year for the last 17 years but never been to Orkney (on list to do) but done Outer Hebredies, NC500 (17 years ago when it eas quieter) and much of Scotland from the borders north. Much better and quiter roads than the northwest of England.

If tou're thinking about doing Scotland - do it and you won't regret it  :)

Is that Sunbeam and S7? it's beautiful, what a thing to own. Well done. :)

Thanks, yeah it's a S7 of 1950 vintage, front brake is worse than a 70's CB but despite its age has enough performance to deal with today's traffic.

That's Toad Hall next to Ainsdale beach (just south of Southport), it's just been recently painted like that. If you go park legally as the Traffic Wardens are keen to issue tickets!

Here's a photo of my original 500, highly modified and in a tasteful mirrorflake over black was a nice paint job but most definitely 1970's  ;D [ Guests cannot view attachments ]
