CB500/550 / Crankcases assembled but can't select gears
« on: May 26, 2022, 11:44:04 AM »
Hello again folks,

I've got my crankcases assembled, no top end on. When I rotate the input shaft by hand and use the gear shift lever, it won't shift through the gears. The selector drum only rotates a small amount. The shafts rotate easily and the output shaft is engaged and rotating.

Any ideas?

Good day folks,

I'm in need of the now discontinued part 22815-283-000 spring. I've Googled and no joy. Has anyone got one I could buy? If not, is there a known alternative or workaround?

Cheers, JB

CB500/550 / Stator recon?
« on: May 19, 2022, 12:16:00 PM »
Good day folks,

My stator is in need of repair. One of the yellow 3 phase wires has snapped off and wiring is generally stiff and aged. Can you recommend someone who can fix it for me? It's from a CB500 K1

CB500/550 / Rear brake actuator arm
« on: April 05, 2022, 09:09:30 PM »
Good evening folks,

As my CB500K1 came in pieces, in boxes, I’ve got a couple of things missing. I’m missing the rear brake actuator arm and kickstart lever. Are these parts common across a few Hondas of the era?
If so, which ones? So I can start looking.

CB500/550 / 13491283000 ring availability??
« on: March 07, 2022, 01:51:22 PM »
Good afternoon folks,

Gradually getting all the parts I need to rebuild my engine. When I bought the bike it was already disassembled, including the engine. I've been through all the bits and can't find the tranny bearing retainer half rings, part numbers 13491283000 & 13492283000. I can get the latter item from CMS but the other item is no longer available.

Are these available anywhere? If not, is there a known solution?

Good day folks,

Is there a UK source for aftermarket phosphor bronze swing arm bushes? I’ve seen those listed on eBay in Germany.

CB500/550 / 500K2 engine rebuild. Newbie questions
« on: February 09, 2022, 01:35:52 PM »
Good afternoon chaps,

Newbie member JB here,

I've bought a 500K2 project bike that's already been dismantled by the previous owner 10 years ago. Including the engine.

I know I need new main crank shells as I've only got 4 of the originals, the rest are missing. Besides seals and gaskets, what else am I going to need whilst I'm doing it? It's been decades since I've done any engine building, and those were 2 stroke singles. So what's the list of 'whilst you're in there' things to do?

Cheers, JB

Good day folks,

JB here, in Shropshire

Thanks for having me. I've just bought a CB 500K1 unfinished project. Actually, it's an unstarted project! Previous owner bought it as a complete bike (minus the exhaust system) 10 years ago to convert it to a cafe racer. He promptly decided to dismantle everything, and I mean everything! The engine is in pieces in a couple of boxes. The positive is that it all looks in great condition so just a matter of getting new seals and gaskets. And main crank shells as he didn't number them. Reg document says it was previously registered abroad. I'm assuming it was a US bike.

I'll probably go down the resto-mod route or Brat style as I'm not as flexible enough as I used to be for a cafe racer. I've got a pretty well-equipped workshop and know what I'm doing with a lathe/milling machine, welding and brazing. I've nearly finished building a 1983 Porsche 911 hotrod and I make my own fillet brazed steel bicycle frames.

I've got lots of questions.

Cheers,

JB
