Fork legs have now both been polished, picture is one done one not.

Forks have been reassembled and are being dropped off to Maxton ar the weekend to have all new internals and springs fitted to bring them up to current suspension standards as possible.

Collected my new Excel Takasago flanged wheels with stanless spokes from the wheel builder this morning and very nice they are to. 8)

I haven't gone any further with this as I made the decision to leave it until the cases had been painted so not to contaminate the clean metal.

A little more progress. 8)
The front and rear hubs and brake plate have all been cleared with a matt clear coat to give them some protection and then all the new bearing where installed.I dropped the hubs off to the wheel builder 2 weeks ago(should have them back next week)to have the new excel valanced rims and stainless spokes fitted.
The engine has been stripped and vapour blasted and awaits me to take it to the painter once I get the head back.

I've had the fork legs back today from Philppot and they have made a first class job.
Before

After

I've finished my mudguard/engine splash guard(not finished in the photo)and its trimmed sanded and ready for the finished coating.Made from a sheet of 2mm ally and bent to fit.

Frame has now had all the welding done and just need all the prep work to be finished before powder coating.

Evening chaps :)

My engine has been stripped and I've had the cases vapour blasted ready for a repaint. All the internals are in excellent condition but a couple of the crank shells are slightly marked.
To be honest they would be fine but as the motor is apart we will replace them as its a no brainer.
Is there some markings on the crank to say what size(colour)are required for replacements, the only marks we can seen anywhere is on the rear of the lower engine case and that is AAAA.

Yes standard sizeswhere 3.35 F and 3.50 rear.
As they do metric and imperial front with the imperial being slightly wider and only metric in the rear would I be better using both metric or doesn't it really matter?

The standard rims are only 1.85 in section, fitting 410 front and 425 rear resulted in tyre wall flex because the rim was too narrow to support such wide section tyres. Best to stay with 360 front and 410 rear or the metric equivalent. It was one of the reasons I binned the spoke rims and fitted Lester alloys as they were 210 in width and could support the 410 and 425 tyres whcih I preferred.

I'm not fitting 410 & 425 I want standard size, just a bit unsure about the back.I'm good with modern sizes I just get a bit confused with the classic stuff.

I've got the old one out and test fitted the new.
The small pin with the slot cut into it didn't seem enough to hold it in which is why I wasn't sure.

Couldn't find an answer in the manuals so ...
Just doing the prep before powder coating, does the lock only stay in the by the little grub screw on the barrel as it only protrudes about 1-2mm?

On the picture above there is a small hole under the lock barrel is this for a cover plate to stop dirt getting in the lock?If it is I'll make one as its missing.

Morning chaps I have a few questions for the collective knowledge.
I'll apologise now because I know they have for the most part been covered a thousand times but I just need to make sure I've got them right in my tiny brain. ::)

I'm just looking to buy a new set of Avon Roadriders for the new wheels I'm having built, but need clarification on the sizes. The front is obviously a 3.25x19 but I can't find an old style measurement for the rear.Is the 110x90x18 the best to go for the nearest match?

I've been looking for a new chain and sprocket. The stock is obviously a non o-ring 530 and but I would like to fit an o-ring chain.I have read that the 525 o-ring is to wide and saws into the caseing, does anyone know if a 520 o-ring would do the same or would it be ok.

The sprocket nuts have the security tabs to stop them coming loose but are these really necessary,I've never seen these on any modern bikes.I was thinking of changing the nuts to nylocs do you think this would be ok or is there some quirck on the early bikes that would cause them to spin off?

No you can ask.

I had the seat pan done gloss black before trimming. The tank had some brazing done,a dent removed and 2 badge cutouts filled, decals added
(i supplied them) and then the whole thing painted. The 2 side pods, front mudguard and bracket also pained and lacquered.

All done in Audi Ice silver with 2 coats of clear for a total of £325 and he delivered it back to me because he moved his workshop while halfway through the job.Robin is a one man band and has just moved to Hornchurch.

The seat cost £60 which I personally though was very cheap and would have paid double that.

I haven't modified it but it's a US import so it may be different.

Well the schedule has gone out the window by about a month due to the sudden death of my mum 6 weeks ago and losing just over 2 weeks due to concrete burns to my eyes. That said I have made a little progress.

The forks have been stripped and the stanchions sent of for rechroming, should have them back in about 5 weeks(7 week lead time) .

The front and rear hubs and rear brake assembly have been stripped and all the big casting flaws have been sanded out before I had them media blasted.

I've had all the paint done.I've decided to go with silver as you can see instead of the original black.

The seat pan was sprayed.I then gave it to Hoods County Customs who made all new foam and a new covering.

The engine is at my mechanics being stripped so I can get the cases bead blasted and then sprayed.
So that's about it so far.

The second question for those that have done this before whats the easyest way of removing the paint that manufactures use on crank cases.

I haven't done it yet but I'm getting mine vapour blasted.

I've had 3 parcels from the states in the last 2-3 months and 2 of them had charges the other slipped through.

I've had a parcel from Japan as well (not recently) and I had a charge on that.
