Hey Matthew,
The carbs have been rebuilt from stem to stern, couple this with syncronization and adjustment when they go back on, I'm hoping it runs well. My concern was that there was not enough support now that the box has been removed.

Agreed, I've seen loads of these also and have spent the last few days looking at pictures of bikes on the internet with this style setup and can see nothing. Just being a bit cautious on my end.

I've decided to run my bike without the air cleaner box using the separate cone filters instead. Because I'm removing this, will I need to add something to support the carburetors? I'm thinking yes as all that will hold them is the clamps to the head. For those that have done this any advice would be welcomed.

Hello Eric,
From what your saying with the neutral light not coming on, this would lead me to believe that either the bike is not fully in neutral (out of gear) see if the bike will roll back and forth freely. If not then it sounds as though the neutral safety switch is gone.

The bike had been parked for just over 10 years it started after some coaxing and I road her all summer last year. The carburetors were in some dire need of rebuilding and this was very evident when I cracked the throttle, a massive bog. When I took them apart it was apparent that the varnish from years of sitting was causing 1 and 4 to flood, 3 to simply spittle fuel, and 2 was running somewhat correctly. I ordered kits from my local bike shop. Using carburetor spray cleaner, pure alcohol, various scrubbing brushes, tools, and a whole bunch of muscle; the final product was worth it. I took extra care in adjusting the floats, chokes, and all settings. Let me tell you that they were off a ton. I applied lubricant to the throttle sections, and clear coated the chrome looking parts to keep the shine. I've ordered a set of gauges to synchronize them from the bike shop and will pick this up Saturday. Have a look at the pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/35951245@N03/

I was going to say just this. Use a good grade of 10/40 but, not synthetic as the oil does go to the clutch and will cause slippage. I've used Castrol on most of my bikes over the years. If your like me who keeps your oil changes regular, then really any good grade would suffice.

Nice collection of bikes. I envy you guys and gals who live in climates that are warm all year round and can ride through the year.

I'm in the middle of doing this to my carbs and looking for a good solvent. I did however use Arm & Hammer baking soda mixed in warm water and a toothbrush to clean the floats. They turned out real nice. I will upload some pics when I get them off the camera.
