CB750 / 750 F2 (view behind left side panel)
« on: March 03, 2016, 03:38:34 PM »
Hello all,

Can I trouble someone to post a photo of the wiring behind the left hand side panel of an F2, please?

I'm particularly interested in where the winker relay sits and how it's connected to the loom. I've got a manual, so the theory's fine; I now want to see what it looks like in the real world.

Many thanks,

D.

Tricks & Tips / LED Indicators (anyone fitted them?)
« on: March 02, 2016, 09:26:34 AM »
Hello all,

(Hope I'm posting this in the right section!)

I'm considering fitting LED indicators to one my old Hondas. Has anyone on this forum done this before? If so, I'm wondering:

1. Do I need a special winker relay or will the standard Honda 12v one do?
2. Is there anything I need to be aware of before getting this work underway (hint & tips)?
3. Can you a recommended source for these parts? There are any number of suppliers on Amazon etc., but first hand experience from people on this excellent forum site is always worth seeking!

Thank you,

D.

Hello all,

Is anyone going to the Classic Bike Show at Shelton Mallet on Sat 6th/Sun 7th Feb and wants to meet up there?

I plan to be there on Saturday but the weather will determine my mode of transport!

I'm not aware of any greeting protocol for forum members (e.g. maybe wearing a carnation and having a password?!), but if there is one, please post! Maybe you also know of a suitable location (club stand?) that we could migrate to at say noon on both days.

Maybe nice to put a few faces to forum names, eh?

Cheers, D.

Misc / Open / Which helmet cam to buy?
« on: January 20, 2016, 08:07:40 PM »
Hi all,

I'm toying with the idea of getting one of those GoPro (Session) things or perhaps another brand that's recommended by fellow SOHCers.

I imagine using it both for self-protection and more importantly for capturing those great moments when the sky clears, the long and winding road beckons, etc...! Will probably use it in the car too.

Any views to support my research will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

D.

CB350/400 / How much is my bike worth?
« on: August 14, 2015, 09:24:59 AM »
Hello all,

I'm guessing a fully restored and good looking, but not original 400/4 is worth about £3,000. Does that sound right to you?

Those pesky insurance kids need to know.

CB350/400 / Crankcase oil leak - easy repair?
« on: March 23, 2015, 06:25:44 PM »
Hi all,

Just when I thought it was nearly time to start this thing for the first time in 18 month, I seem to have dislodged an oil seal!

Those of you who have followed my 'starter motor not working' thread (http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,8030.0.html) will know that I spun it up, only to see a large pool of oil appear! It was coming from the rotor end, so I whipped off the cover to reveal the lower 'seal' had been pushed out by the oil pressure from running the starter enough to see the oil pressure light go off... a good sign, generally!

You can see from the pictures below the 'plug' sits at the bottom of the crankcase, underneath the rotor (left corner).

My question for you experts is how best to re-fit this and stop the leak. It has a new(ish) o-ring in place. Do I just push it back in (hard) or apply some sealing gunge first?

It seems to me that this is probably a one-hit wonder, as there is no obvious way of pulling it out again, other than pushing it using oil pressure within... a somewhat messy process!

Thanks again experts,

D.

CB350/400 / Starter Motor Not Working
« on: March 12, 2015, 07:20:57 PM »
Hello all,

As my previous thread (http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,7852.0.html) was leading this way, I thought I'd start a new one to make future searching for anyone a bit easier.

It seems that my starter motor is dead.

Step 1 - My meter is showing 12v from the solenoid when I press the starter button so I have removed the starter and now require your expertise (having never before stripped a starter motor).

Step 2 - I put a car battery between the body of the starter (-ve) and the power lead only to see a flash and no movement from the cog end before I rapidly pulled it away again.

Next step, removed the bolts to reveal the innards, as per the pictures below. A couple of things struck me: 1) should there be sheathing on both of the wires leading to the brushes? 2) I picked up a loose piece of metal that you can see resting on top of the body near the unsheathed brush. Can't see where it might have come from.

Any advice (such as buy a replacement starter motor!) very much appreciated.

Cheers, D.

CB350/400 / Locations of Transfers/Stickers
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:06:13 PM »
Hi all,

I'm sure I've seen on here somewhere, a diagram or two that shows exactly where the various stickers/transfers go, but now I can't find it (or imagined it).

Does anyone have a definitive guide, please, before I make a terrible mistake and label a battery as a helmet holder or some such?

Thank you,

D.

CB350/400 / Tank retaining rubber - anyone got a photo?
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:52:31 AM »
Hi all,

I have a nice new rubber to fit on the frame at the seat end of the tank. You know the one; big bugger with a loop to fit the tank lip into.

Can I trouble someone to take a photo of how yours is fitted, please? I'm sure it should be straigtforward, but I don't want to force it, etc. I suspect that my frame lugs have been bent a little. Your photo will help.

Thank you,

D.

CB350/400 / 400 Wiring Enquiries
« on: February 28, 2015, 01:11:06 PM »
Hello all,

I have attached 3 photos and hope that you can help me by telling me what the wires are for:

Photo 1 - indicator relay: which colour which goes on which terminal? I think my trial and error has blown my main fuse (doh)!

Photo 2 - the blue & red one on the right above the white wire. I can't see that colour combination on my wiring diagram.

Photo 3 - pale green double socket wire from the loom under the tank. I can't see a corresponding coloured plug wire(s) anywhere near there.

Thanks all,

D.

CB350/400 / 400 Frame Enquiries
« on: February 25, 2015, 10:18:27 PM »
Hi all,

I'd appreciate your thoughts on the two photos.

1. What's the bracket that sticks up from the side of the rear frame arm for? My parts catalogue shows one on each side, but my bike's only got one on the offside (poor thing).
2. There are two holes on each side of the rear frame arms. My parts book suggests that I should only have one on each side to fit the indicator stalks. I guess someone drilled the extra ones for a rack or some such, unless you peeps know better.

Thank you,

D.

Misc / Open / I'm anything BUT an expert!
« on: February 23, 2015, 01:22:30 PM »
It seems that this forum (that I like and respect) now regards me as an SOHC Expert.

Those of you who have read, and in many cases kindly responded to my posts, will know that I am anything but an SOHC expert! Whilst I will accept but not revel in this (automated?) new accolade, I won't be adding it to my CV for fear of being found out.

However, confession is good for the soul!

CB350/400 / 2 Extra wires from my rectifier
« on: February 15, 2015, 03:35:36 PM »
Hi all,

My non-standard solid state rectifier has a black and a white wire coming from it with male spades on the end (see picture below). Inevitably perhaps, my photos of the dismantling aren't clear enough to work out where these wires go.

There's only the 3 x yellow, 1 x green and 1 x red wires shown on the wiring diagrams that I have. There's also no branding on the device to look up on t'interwebnet.

Can you help?

Thank you, D.
