CB750 / Is this a real PRR?
« on: July 23, 2017, 06:02:42 PM »
Hi all,

I noticed this advert that makes claims about the authenticity of a Phil Read Rep for sale. Whilst I'm no expert, I can't help noticing that the ignition keys are sticking out from the middle of the handlebars, rather than being tucked away in the left fairing as they should be.

I'm sure that people on this forum know more about such things than me and can add their comments hereto!

Cheers, D.

Hi all,

I'm no expert on 750Ks, hence this question: does this look a good buy? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/honda-cb750-k5-motorbike-/253040407868?hash=item3aea62353c:g:zNwAAOSw-29ZPm5-#shpCntId

I'm also inherently suspicious of ebay!

Comments and hints appreciated (e.g. can you private message a seller on e-bay?).

Cheers, D.

Hi Ken,

I have a PRR.

There are a number of differences with the Honda Britain, some of which have been highlighted already.  They were marketed at the time as the '750SS' after Honda pulled out of the project, leaving Colin Seeley to do his own thing.

This website and the chap who runs it may prove helpful - http://www.cb750f2hondabritainoc.co.uk/

It sounds like you've started the probationary period and after a few more years of practice may become fully qualified!

Apologies to anyone who doesn't get it, but I find this sort of thing rather satisfying...

I too relied on compressed air, etc. to clean out the vapour blasting deposits on my 400 casings. I could only find any in the blanked-off oilway mentioned already in this thread. It occurs to me that if doing it again, I could deploy the 'endoscope' thing my wife bought me for Christmas... before the comments come in, it's strictly for engineering use!
Cheers, D.

I wonder if it was used by a motorcycle display team or some such for standing pyramids of people on?!

Welcome Attic.

I have a mate who lives in Horsmonden, but he's not a biker... and I live in Somerset, so not a regular haunt for me but a nice part of the world.

Enjoy this space.

Cheers, D.

Sorry Mike, just my sick sense of humour.... some bikes I've seen have been held together by the tax disc holder!

One further thought from a rank amateur.... tighten the puller then leave for a few hours, go and do something else then tighten it further again. Repeat. This doesn't work if the job needs doing quickly, but eventually the forces applied will have a bearing on the outcome given enough time!
