Thanks for the suggestions I can find all manner of plastic/neoprene/rubber washers with the right profile but not metal.
Still not sure what the correct name for them is, there seems to be several different names that all look similar.
Any more suggestions welcome I’m still searching in the meantime.

Does anyone know what the correct name for this type of washer?
On cmsl they are called a washer collar, but I can’t find anything of that name. You see lots of them usually on rubber bushes and or anti vibration mounts. I’m missing a few and and those that I do have are in poor condition so I’d like to buy a bundle and replace them. Finding them though is turning into a bit of mystery hunt.

Smooth peanut butter apparently does the trick. The oil in it probably similar to the olive oil post above.

I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1983 Honda CB125TDC, and I'm missing a small part from one of the carbs. Its the small w-shaped spring clip that holds the needle into the slide.

You can't buy the spring clip separately as it comes as a set with a new needle and c-clip and costs about £16.00 plus postage, I only need the clip so was hoping somebody on here maybe has a stash of parts that could help me out, or point me in the right direction to somewhere that maybe supplies the clip separately, I haven't been able to find anywhere yet.

Thanks

Alan

Thanks Hairygit I’ll pay the dealer a visit this week, still wondering what their purpose is, all I can think of is it acts as a spacer.

Other Bikes / Fork Question

Currently renovating a 1983 Cb125tdc and I’m in the process of rebuilding the forks.
Noticed today that one of the lower legs has a back up ring which sits underneath the fork seal but the other one is missing. So my question is what is the purpose of this ring and is it essential to have it since there wasn’t one fitted previously.

Cheers hairygit I checked out the Motogrid website and yes there are heaps of other bikes listed using the part no 45107-MA3-006, mostly big 900/1000cc with 4 pot calipers, funnily enough mine isn’t listed. Maybe didn’t sell them over the pond. David Silvers list OEM ones for around £15 but add postage and vat and they’re not much cheaper. The search continues.

Hi folks was reading with interest Peteuk’s cb125 thread as I’ve also got myself one. A 1983 TDC model. No pictures unfortunately at present but it was in a similar state to Pete’s very rusty and unloved. So far I’ve completely dismantled it and had the frame powder coated. In the process of cleaning and painting everything else and looking to start rebuilding the forks and front brake caliper.

This is where I’ve hit a stumbling block, the front caliper is a twin pot which is probably identical and used on dozens of other Hondas. What has got me slightly miffed is the variation of prices for what must be the exact same part. I had to trash the caliper pistons getting them out of the body as they were completely seized in place. I thought replacements wouldn’t cost much but for my specific model they’re around £20-22 each. if I search by diameter and length 30mm dia.x 35mm long there are several different models using that size and are quite a bit cheaper. There’s just this nagging doubt that if I get the cheaper ones will they definitely fit ok. Searched by part number too and then the prices seem to go up again. Any suggestions or recommendations for suppliers.

CB350/400 / Best number plate
« on: July 03, 2017, 05:22:01 PM »
Was following a Honda CRV on my way to Aberdeen this morning with the number S 400 FOR , must be some history behind the number plate.
Maybe a former owner of a bike or anyone on here recognise it?

Drained the engine oil and checked for particles and did have some debris there but turned out to be blobs of liquid gasket I'd used when I replaced the clutch cover gasket earlier this year. There wasn't anything gritty or solid in the oil. A mate suggested I might have got something kicked up into the chain or sprocket which I'm starting to think is a more likely possibility.

Thanks for all the replies.

When I rebuilt the master cylinder and caliper it was a full refurb with new seals and pistons on both, I also set the gap on the fixed pad to the face of the disc as per the manual 15 thou IIRC.

I'll check the oil for particles and report back,

Thanks again.

Got a 1977 400/4 and had a couple of close calls last night while out for a spin and was seeking some advice.

Firstly I have rebuilt my front brake master cylinder and caliper but since doing so I've never felt that comfortable with it. it has been bled several times but still feels weak and spongy at best. Had a taxi slam on the anchors in front of me last night and I struggled to stop quickly locked the back end up but didn't feel much was happening up front. Fortunately didn't come off or hit him but was a close call. So was thinking braided hoses for a start and was looking for thoughts or recommendations.

Second problem was later on was giving the bike a blast on the motorway and had been bowling along at about 75 for a good few miles with no problems whatsoever then had a white knuckle moment the bike lurched with a noticeable squealing scraping sound and what felt like a loss of power. I immediately shut off the power and coasted onto the hard shoulder the noise only lasted a couple of seconds and the bike never cut out the engine was still running as I coasted along so I lightly accelerated and sat about 50 no problem no more noises drove back the last few miles back home with no more noises or issues. My first thoughts were was it the clutch maybe slipped.

Any help and ideas welcome

Cheers

Alan
