would be interested to know how to remove a dent in a front pipe, as to the best of my knowledge they were double skinned. Well done Ted for re-homing them!

Well done - I'm to hand fisted for that sort of delicate work so use KENT400 I know my limitations.

When I tried to put a new battery in a ladies wrist watch the hands fell off. ;D ;D ;D
Your's or her's????

Sorry Ted, no.  £55 per year.

Ted, don't know if you are a member of the VMCC, but they have a very good adverts section in their monthly journal. Under 40 words no charge!  I've sold a few bits through them, less hassle than fleabay and you are dealing with genuine users/owners.  They look far too good to scrap, that would be a crime.

CB350/400 / Re: Starting in cold weather
« on: January 01, 2024, 04:45:01 PM »
Way back then, my 750K2 would always difficult to start once it had sat for a while, e.g. overnight, or even all day, in cold damp weather.

I used to carry a small blow torch in the top box and use this to warm up / dry up the plug caps and leads and it would fire up immediately :o

Now I have new coils and it starts with no problem; it rarely sits outside in cold and damp nowadays mind.
.  This is the image I have of you Sean!!! Happy New Year.

Whilst I fully appreciate all the 'plus' points of modern electrickery, I find that it has led to a situation whereby no encouragement is made to younger people to stimulate their brains, just accepting that whatever the machine/computer/diagnostic system displays.  About 3 years ago, a friend nearby took his diesel transit to the main dealer as it was running like a stuffed pig. The technician duly plugged in the necessary equipment, and even though the van was shaking like a jelly when idling, the verdict was "No Fault Found", and they were ready to send him on his way. Cannot remember what the problem was, but it was rectified by one of the more senior members of the engineering staff.

If you start it and don't drive it to get it up to its correct operating temperature, what happens to all the moisture that's produced. I've managed to keep my OE exhaust system intact for nearly 15 years now. I do not start it unless I'm taking it our for a run.  Anyway, enough of that, I wish you all a very pleasant and peaceful Christmas, and good riding in the New Year,  Mike.

Good grief, you've all just hit a memory cell!!  I worked for Brown Bros. motor factors until 1985, and I can still remember we kept a reasonable stock of BMC front dampers, somehow the part no. 8181 comes to mind.  I clearly recollect Austin Cambridges and other badged equivalents coming down the road impersonating a yo-yo when the dampers were shot. Plus of course they could be fixed by Kerbside Motors Inc.  Gearboxes played havoc with your ribcage though!!  Happy Days eh?

I think I'll just skate over these silly remarks.

Yes,  definitely satin for both the yoke and the clamps. Pic (Hopefully) of my 400 with the original untouched (scratched!) items.

I've owned my 400 for nearly 36 years now, and it has always been run with the points set-up. The only problem I had was when about 6 years ago, thinking it would be simpler, instead of fiddling about renewing the points, I purchased and fitted a fully loaded pattern backplate. The condensers on it lasted about 2 weeks and resulted in my one and only (so far) coming home in a RAC recovery truck.  Dug down my box of bits, retrieved the original backplate, fitted two sets of OE points and returned to con edition normal. I find it no real problem to set points and time the ignition, especially if that's all you've ever been used to.  Stay safe and upright. Mike.

CB350/400 / Re: Rear mudguard/fender wiring harness.
« on: November 21, 2023, 09:10:24 AM »
If I'm not mistaken, the only wires running under the mudguard are to the rear light fitting, and these are connected to the main harness with bullet connectors. It would possibly be cheaper and easier to purchase the relevant coloured wire, connectors, and some sleeving and make it a DIY job. Don't forget to use a piece of string to tie the wires together, then use it to pull them through the channel under the guard.

CB350/400 / Re: Kick start woes....
« on: November 12, 2023, 03:18:51 PM »
You mentioned that the bike is still up on the lift, if you are using your hands/arms to try and operate the kickstarter, then there is every chance that, like many of us I'm sure, that it brings home how much pressure you exert with your leg. When my bike is on the ramp and I'm checking the timing etc., I put it in 6th gear and turn the back wheel by hand. Tried using the kickstart but it was a no go at that angle, and that's with an engine that has quite a few miles under its tyres.

On exhausts you had a nice rasp from copper/ brass tail pipes I guess inlets are the same 'sumat' to do with harmonics.
. Many moons ago, about 1969/70,  I bought a second hand CB250, the first of the 5 speed models. It was plagued with carb problems so I went to Read Titan in Leytonstone and purchased a pair of Amal concentrics, fitting kit, PLUS!, a nice pair of inlet bell mouths
. . This model Honda was one of the first to be equipped with a fairly loud exhaust as standard, but when the motor started to breathe properly above 7000RPM, those inlet stacks completely drowned out any other sounds. Naughty but Nice!
