I'm showing my age I've never hears of Moto Morini  but I had a Maico Letta so no excuse really. I like the V layout.

If you get these blemishes out and you can get up a good shine why paint your casings , fork lowers or rear brake cover? If I'm to be asked they look way better polished , and it isn't that hard keeping them that way!

Very nice bike too much effort for me - I'll stick to paint on the engine.

Luckily I was given some old formula Nitromoors.

I have stripped the clutch case cover with Nitromores is this suitable for painting or do I need to get some 1200 grit and remove the dark patches?Cutch Cover by Macabe Thiele, on Flickr

I was given 2 free oil filters with the bike are EMGO any good they came with the two O rings?

Welcome to the forum.

What is the red bike in the photo with the 3 1/2 side badge I can see all the tank badge I can't read the tank badge fully?

Okay, I follow your reasoning but am I wrong in thinking that a change in float level on an individual cylinder will also affect the mixture at idle as the fuel pressure head to the idle jet will have changed - thus making it run richer or weaker thus affecting the idle speed especially if more than one cylinder has been affected. I see the logic that once running on the main jet the effect would be less.

The post did not mention how many float levels were adjusted but it appears to be plural. The consequence of this I would have thought could result in an increase in overall engine rpm. The consequence of an increase in mixture/ rpm on one or even two cylinders would then affect the air flow through the remaining cylinders would it not? (assuming no air leaks)

I'm starting to get lost in my own  logic - I accept that sometimes in defiance of all rules engines can do some strange things. I particularly liked the idea that on it's side stand all carbs would be equally affected by a change in float level. The post is a little ambiguous as it starts to read that the new fuel tap caused the increase in idle speed whereas it was more likely that it was a result of changing float level(s).

Back in the early 1970's the Vauxhall Viva Brabham conversion kits were plagued with hot engine idle speeds as were the early MG Maestro models - in both cases it was caused by fluctuating inlet manifold temperatures. Both manufacturers cured the issue by introducing heated inlet manifolds!

...  rebalance the carbs.
Not necessary as balance hasn't changed.
I beg to differ if you change the float level on one carburettor that will alter the mixture on one cylinder slightly hence some imbalance. Unlike some multiple carburettor car engines there is no balancer manifold arrangement. IMHO.

Change in float level will alter the mixture - might need air screw adjustments /  rebalance the carbs.

It can be stripped whilst still in the frame Ted. Even the 400/4 engines are a heavy lump when complete. Remove, rocker cover, head, barrels and then its easier and lighter to lift the bottom end out.
Will it not come out as a  complete unit?
I can easily obtain assistance with a lift out.
Oh yes, it will come out in one lump very easily with 2 of you Ted. I assumed you would be doing it on your own and didn't want you to get a double hernia on top of your other issues 😊😊😊
If there was room for bodies & hands I can get 2 to help me. Too late for a hernia warning they found a small one when I had my last scan. I've no idea how I got it as I'm very careful when I lift anything - I don't do heavy. Lol

Having followed this post with interest I am none the wiser yet as to what the cause was - have I missed something?

As I have no date for my operation with indications that it will not now be until late November due to a backlog in Urology/Covid consequences I've now started plan C roughly as follows.

When the clutch casing has been re-painted & replaced I am going to do a final compression test both hot & cold to help me decide if a full engine strip is really necessary.

I am aiming to then remove the engine & put it on its NJ sourced stand, get as far as possible with the full frame strip down to enable powder coating.

I am guessing the engine is pretty heavy - so can it be removed complete or do I need to take off the rocker cover?
Any tips for getting it out of the frame please?

If you are planning to cure the paint in the kitchen oven you need to ensure you have treated your o/h (and her best friend) to a luxury Spa weekend away at the same time to allow the fumes to dissipate before she arrives home. Oh, and you give her your credit card for a shopping trip whilst she's away just to be on the safe side!

Fully understood I have had 43 years of marriage to break me in! ;D ;D
