I have seen this model before and it is indeed a superb scale model.

I think there is a kit that uses a Nickel/Cobalt alloy to replicate chrome plating. As such, if you can do zinc  or nickel plating at home, then you could use this....

Are these rings like the original stainless steel ones or are the the ally ones that don't look too good?

Interesting to see how you've done it there Ted.

Also made me think, it's funny how looking at something causes your mind to dig up something related but not commonly associated with motorcycle etc

Often ski base repairs are carried out by melting new plastic into damaged areas, referenced as "P-Tex" usually and available for hot gun applications https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115878830369 and looking remarkably close in material type to flexible bike plastics.

Could be of use in this case, very routine in maintaining ski or snowboard to correct damage on bases.

I wonder if they are the size for a glue gun and would they work!? I tend to use tie wraps as the filler with a soldering iron....

Ted, measure the thread section rather than the unthreaded part. The 'outer' dim of the threads is what you want.....

Love the period photos. I've bought a couple of bikes from Tippets (and a few test rides!) in the past and a chum of mine was a mechanic there. Alas, I'm nowhere near them now....

Respect. A chum of mine did something similar a few years ago and loved it. Mind you he does transats all the time. Hope it all goes well.

Same here Ian, never had an issue re-plating springs when closed.

I rode past my old childhood home recently and on a whim, I turned round and knocked on the door. I asked the people who lived there if they wouldn't mind if I had a look at my old bedroom. They said no and shut the front door on me.
Parents can be so cruel sometimes.....
Ha!

Phil, that is dreadful news but as said, hopefully it will be sorted.
Makes my recent diagnosis of glaucoma pale into insignificance!

Left over in the tray from when the 400 was stripped is the part below:

Anyone know where it should live? Of course the PO could have fitted it but it does look commercially made....

Understood. I have just got a CD175 but will convert mine to 12v in due course. This one has not been on the road since 1993....
