Hi, I've recently purchased a 400/4 completely in bits! Everything has been rechromed/repainted/restored, it literally needs building from scratch.Pictures attached.[attachimg=1] I own some other bikes (Suzukis I'm afraid), a GS750, GT250 and TS185 all of which have been restored but this is my first Honda. I'm still working out where all the bits go and will certainly be asking a lot of daft questions along the way, I'm from South Lincolnshire by the way.

Welcome to the Forum Paul from mid Lincolnshire ;D. I almost bought a house in Holbeach, The Limes, next to the old Asylum.
At least you're starting with nice clean blingy bits !!.
Enjoy your jigsaw puzzle , sorry, your rebuild.

Welcome to the forum Paul. You have a good basis to start from, someone has already done a lot of work.
Post photos of the rebuild as it progresses.

Welcome to the mad world of the SOHC. Great little sandwich café opposite the church in Holbeach that does top bacon butties ;)
-
Welcome ..nice starting point for a project .. a lot of the hard work done already.
Project Dole Racer's donor came from a scrapyard in Holbeach ! Built by 'Performance Bikes' Magazine in 1985/6 Yoshi big bore kit, Yam LC cycle parts, CB250RS tank :) Kind of poor man's 'Mocheck Harrier'.

Welcome Paul
I am sure you are going to have many happy hours and a real nice bike at the end

Welcome to the forum. Hope your puzzle goes ok and you have all the pieces. There's no need for scratching your head with all us experts on hand. Don't forget to take lots of photos. What colour is it BTW?

You are just along the road from me at Leverington, speak to Trigger about the head to block O rings and gasket, the replacements are notorious for leaking, be a shame to put it all back and have to strip it out again.

Welcome to the forum and have fun. Wasn't it classic bike restoration place that sold that? Which struck me as a little strange.

Thanks for all the replies. I've put most of the cycle parts together with no drama, new head bearings, fork seals and swinging arm bushes. I've also rebuilt the front caliper and master cylinder. Most parts are identified and I've yet to find anything missing (famous last words!). Next step is the engine........

good work
its like a big puzzle
is the rear sprocket on the right way round?
-
I thought that Jason but I was admiring the lovely neat wiring loom and forgot to mention it.
-
No it's the wrong way round, well done you passed the test!!
Actually it's a schoolboy error on my part and doesn't bode well for the rest of the job does it. :o
-
Paul, I'm sure you'll do fine. Use the experts on here to help. That's what I do. :D :D :D

Worry not Paul. I put the oil screen back in the sump whilst rebuilding my engine, fitted the rubber tube and bolted up the sump pan.....then I noticed the spring on the work bench.....silly bitch, or similar, I said to myself and had to undo all those bolts and fit it. All part of the learning curve ;D
