After my two bikes were nearly stolen and the way the 550 is going downhill without a garage I've decided to get a new bike that won't rust outdoors.
Two choices at the minute.

I like both colours, which is your favourite

I know where you are comming from, my current daily ride is an ntv 650, cost £380 with tax and test, looks shockingly scruffy but years left in it - shaft drive is a boon for an easy life. One of the issues affecting my cb500/4 was that some scrote was meddling with it when it was parked outside work at 2 am, and though I never could find that they had actually done any more than try starting it , it never ran right afterwards for any length of time. The old cb500 and 550 dont appriciate rain and outdoors living if not looked after, especially if equipped with original tinwork. I would tentatively suggest a cb550 with a fiberglass rear muddy, seatbase and really well treated front gaurd would be no more likely to suffer from outdoor storage than those bikes.

Well, my 550's rear wheel is starting to go, the headlight and indicators all starting to rust. So I figure the less chrome the better.
I prefer the yellow but the r/w/b one only has 19k on the clock.

As long as the spokes are not pitted it is shocking how bad cb wheels can look and last and still be sound. But it is a shame to watch them deteriorate if they could still be restroed to very good. A good wash down with wash and wax shampoo and spray with duck oil does do wonders to preserve them though.
-
I find that the spokes come up a treat with a scouring pad.
I used 3 types on my CB550, red , green and grey, depending on how bad they are pitted.
It takes some time to do each individual spoke, but it's worth it in the end.

Les, the CBR is a bullet proof engine as long it has it has been serviced right. Things to look out for are the disc crack beween the holes when they start to get on the thin side. Good chain and sprocket kit can set you back £75+ ;)
-
I did that and I'm sorry I did. Rusted 100 times quicker.
-
r/w/b bike is a 1 owner 19000 mile bike Trig. Going to see it tomorrow
-
Can't go far wrong with a CBR Les I know someone that buys them almost religiously I think the last one he sold had one hundred thousand on it.
They seem to be bolted together well and stand up to being left outside quit well.

Yeah Mick. I did a bit of research beforehand. Only 600's. Suzuki has an awful wide seat, just don't really like Yamaha, Kawasaki is a bit extreme. I don't like those Bandit/Hornet/Fazer things. The CBR seems like a good all-rounder. I haven't been on anything this extreme since the 80's GSXR1100, it should be fun.
-
I couldn't believe how small the CBR felt compared to my Speed four.I wish I went for the Honda as it would have been more reliable than the Triumph. The clip ons will feel a bit extreme for awhile. ;)

If you go for a CBR its got to be red, white&blue. 8)

That rwb above is within walking distance from me. Going to try and view it tomorrow.
I love yellow. :-\

I'll look for some adjustable replacements.

So I went for this one.

I was handed the original 2001 green log book with one owners name on it, 19900 miles on the clock.
As the guy was about to start counting the cash I decided to warm the bike up. Bleeeeuuuu, dead battery. So off he went and bought a new battery. (£43)..fool.
In his garage without leccy he starts putting the new battery in. I hear him saying, "Oh, I'm putting this in the wrong way round" and corrected his mistake. I asked him if he connected the cables and he said no. So put key in and nothing. Oh ffs. Pulled every fuse and they were fine. He thought he had a dud battery.
By this time it was late so I went home and googled cbr reverse polarity and found that the main fuse lived alone away from the other fuses and was easy to miss. I was 99% sure this was the fix. I phoned him and said I'd found the problem and meet him tomorrow.
The next day he rings and says the battery was a confirmed dud!
Anyhoo, got to his garage after many postponements and stuff and he had the battery fitted the correct way. I lifted the seat, changed the fuse and put the key in and she lit up. Fuse was well blown.
Well, I got a new battery and he gave me 20 notes for petrol. 8)

Nice one, love the color scheme, now enjoy the summer and get some quality riding in

Looks great
I love the colour coded pipe
I had an apprentice that connected a battery up in reverse ..(admittedly it is easily done) considering he was an electrical apprentice he got the p1ss ripped out of him plenty
I think he's fitting window's now

Now be a hooligan and get a shorter can... :)
-
If its anything like my CBR, he wants a medal for that, as battery compartment so very tight. I wouldn't have thought it possible! Great bikes the CBR6's and in my mind, all one would ever need (besides a nice classic to pootle around on every now and then) Ditto on short can.

The pipe is actually oval so just isn't so big as it looks in the picture. Still want a shorter one though. :)

You can also go legal loud with a Beowulf can.

Legal is boring. :o :o :o I used to have Yoshimura's on my CBR's, the bike sounded lovely, especially going through a tunnel ;D ;D ;D

Great buy and you went for the best colour. 8)

There's loud and there's too loud...
I put the baffles back in the Arrow exhaust on my Tiger as it was giving me a headache (and extreme stress when riding through town in the middle of the night past the bored coppers)
-
I had to put the baffle back in my GPR exhaust on the Guzzi as I keep scaring horses and small children ;D ;D

That was you scaring the small children and animals Mick, not the exhausts ;D ;D ;D

I have angina and need to take a GTN spray when I get stressed or excited...old heart you know.
I used it the most ever when I took that bike home. :)
I'm used to it now though.
Need to get knee sliders next. ;D
