Title: Float Bowl O Rings
Post by: tom400f on May 28, 2015, 11:16:47 AM
I need to replace these (but everything else about my carbs is OK). What's the best source and when I do fit them do I need to add any goo?

Thanks
Tom

Perfect thanks!

One carb is seeping from the float bowl face and I know the seals are originals so time to replace them.

Thinking about it I could also use the main jet and drain screw ones as I know they are a bit dodgy. No point asking him to split after that.

Once you are in the carbs Tom, you may as well do all the seals and clean up the brass ;)

This bit:

When placing the O-ring for the float bowl sealing, first apply some glue / sealant in the corners of the groove, then place the O-ring and give it some time.  This will keep the O-ring in to place during mounting.

is what I meant by goo. He says use a little goo.

Hi Tom. I didn't use any 'goo'  I found the 'O' rings stayed in the groove if I warmed the rings up a bit in my hands before fitting, makes them more supple. I have had no leaks so worked for me

I used a little 'goo' but only a little, applied with a cocktail stick. Maybe I should have borrowed Julie's hands!

If the O-ring has a tendency to escape from the groove then a little masking tape will hold it in place while the 'goo' sets or the warmth from Julie's hands dissipates.

A woman with warm hands don't believe it  ;)

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Warm most of the time Paul. Bloody freezing like everyone elses when I have been on the bike. Luckily my hands are quite small, perfect for fiddling with carbs

OK.

Warm hands on the rubber.

No goo.

Got it.
