It was his late dad's bike who always wanted to café it. He says he will never sell it and wants to keep it. I would do what Ian said and buy another one to café. It's not as if his dad is going to find out is it.

Hi all, it's been a while. Now that the K1 is done I am having a go at a 400 four although it's not mine. I have tidied the engine up a bit, it is a good runner (or so I am assured) so it just needed cleaning. The rolling bit is in good nick but the fella wants it café racering (if that's the phrase), which is a shome as it would make a bloody good resto. Still, it's his bike. Here are some pics, not good ones of the bike, sorry.

Hi Tim, I used PJ1 Fast Black satin black engine paint. It's on eBay for around £14 a tin and is a pretty good match to the original.

Well with the Honda all but finished it gave me time to play with another project I have been messing with for the last year or so. It is close to finishing now, just needs a few bits doing, oh, and a set of exhausts (or hen's teeth). That frame is the background is the RD 400 I need to do, that still needs a bit of fettling.

I have a vague recollection that when I put dual discs and calipers on my K6 in the 70s it actually made the brakes worse if anything. I was told that I should have upgraded the master cylinder as well to cope with the extra fluid that needed pushing. Is this correct? Me with said K6, oh dear!!!!

Well, the Honda's done (near enough), now to finish the GPZ900R and make an effort to do something with the RD400.

Just a quick vid of the K1. The seat's not right but I have made a Honda stencil, I just need some vinyl paint now (and some bottle to do it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPvdY_Q3BzA

I had Carbone Lorraine pads in both of my XJRs and the brakes were superb. I wonder if they list them for the Honda, (yeah, right).

I went down to the local bike pub (the Tap) today, all of a 4 mile round trip, and not a drop of oil was to be seen. It went sweet as a nut but I wish there was something I could do with the front brake, any recommendations for better pads or any other suggestions. Other than the brakes it was a joy to ride not having to worry about leaks. I got some positive comments too which is always nice.

I got the replacement barrels on today, just have to wait now for the headset to arrive so I can finish it off and get it all back together again. Why is it always a bank holiday when you are in a hurry for something!!! Patience is a virtue I don't really have much of.

That is something i have never seen on one of these bikes. If it has cut that much away, were has all the alloy gone ?
My thoughts exactly, where did all the ally go? There is no sign of any remnants anywhere and it appears that the whole thing has been stripped and rebuilt so I guess it has all been cleared out.
