CB350/400 / Fuel and Overflow pipes
« on: November 27, 2013, 09:59:54 AM »
Hoping this is a quick question, I am wanting to replace all the fuel lines and overflow pipes on the bike as some were damaged by fire and some are just a bit tatty... what do people use?  Is it just a case of measuring the pipe diameter (internal) and getting the same or do people recommend something different... might seem like a daft question... and it probably is!  :-[

CB350/400 / 400f second stage of resto...
« on: November 23, 2013, 07:10:10 PM »
I know you all missed part one but part 2 started today so figured I would "treat" you all to it...  :o

Okay so after giving the 400f a good wash to get all the Great British road salt off it I have started, small things but I dont plan on rushing, there are plenty of things I wan to fix from the first time round as well as some things that I didnt do at all first time round...

Started with the clocks,

First a gratuitous bike shot....

I struggle to find a bad angle for this bike....

Clocks off....

This is what brake fluid does, and why I wanted to do them again

So here they are, off the bike and ready to start

Pulled apart pretty easy to do, now I am on about my 10th time!  :-\

Always make an effort to keep all the parts together

Roughed up and ready to prime

My slightly ad-hoc spray booth, always worked well in the past so I stick with it, hair drier is off when spraying but keeps the box warm and the works as an oven when I close the front

3 coats of primer, no wet and dry which was a bit of a fail on my part.. will get some tomorrow but these needed to hard bake anyway

This needs some fixing, dont want perfect but the black needs to be black again

Masked up and ready to pain

Fit Forks
Fit new carb seal kits
Sort headers (replace or paint)
Polish / Clean hubs
Sort cable routing
complete timing
Bench sync carbs

Rear Shocks - Strip I paint

It will be like doing another project!!

CB350/400 / Bleed nipple seepage....
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:20:48 AM »
Sounds painful I know... and another question, apologies!

I have been bleeding the front brake and I have noticed that it keep weeping, I dont want to tighten the bleed nipple anymore for fear of snapping it but I was wondering if this is normal?  (I am guessing not) and what, if anything I can do to fix it!

CB350/400 / Am I able to change the mileage...
« on: October 31, 2013, 02:52:08 PM »
Not in a fraudulent way but the clocks I have used to replace the ones that were original show a much higher mileage, the originals were totaled from 30 years in a garage and the replacements are out by about 20k... Now, I have no intention of selling the bike but feel that it should reflect the true mileage and not the miles that show from another bike....

For reference, if I did sell the bike then I would include all the pics from the resto which include the photo of the clocks showing about 700 miles.

Cheers

A not dodgy (honestly)

CB350/400 / Clutch Slip... and
« on: October 23, 2013, 06:34:47 PM »
After faffing around with a few bits and bobs I decided to head down my street just to see how it was running, apart from feeling very small compared to my DL1000 I am sure the clutch was slipping, when I gassed it up a bit it did accelerate but not at the same speed as the revs, is there anyway to adjust the clutch other tahn the cable or am I in need of a new clutch?  It would not surprise me as the bike stood for 30 years before I got my hands on.

Aside from the carb fuel flooding issue she seems to be running pretty sweet, idles well without the choke and revs nicely and freely very excited about getting it finally finished off, just in time for... well erm... winter...  ::)

Still plenty I am not happy with but just keen to get it through the MOT and ready to ride.

Also on the carbs its only 2 that seem to overflow, what are peoples thoughts, get kits for all or just the 2 that are an issue?

Cheers

Hi Everyone, stumbles acorss this place looking for some answers to a overflowing 400/4 issue, wish i had found it earlier as there seems to be some great knowledge here!

I have a 1976 400 four which was the father in laws, following a crash he had it stored for 30 years until I took it on, done a lot of work and pleased with the results, still has a few bits to sort out before it hits the road and no doubt I have a lot more questions!
