Title: Kick start return spring
Post by: Athame57 on January 22, 2019, 03:45:50 PM
Getting ready to return my clutch cover housing and while checking what to do I find two arms on the kick start return spring. The long one is simple enough, hook onto rib on crankcase as seen in manual, but same manual is not clear about what to do with the short arm if anything needs to actually be done. I see nothing making itself obvious either......is there?

Thanks Julie....you are a gem! So I fit the short one first and strain back on the longer one until it's in position.   ;D

Put the short arm up against its stop first and turn the shaft clockwise as far as it will go - then you need to be stretching the spring to hook the long end onto its ledge.

That's what I needed to do anyway, with my CL450 I didn't stretch anything, just put the spring where it seemed to fit straight away, and ended up with a limp shaft, oo er missus.  8)

Trigger or Julie will tell you if this is b*****ks but that's what worked for me.

Yep, you may need a spring puller, or anything with a hook on it, to pull the long end up and on to the ledge on the casing.

Nothing worse than a limp shaft Dave  :o :o :o
Yes, your 2nd attempt was the correct way of fitting it.
