Title: hello
Post by: 59viperman on March 09, 2013, 11:56:48 AM
hello from ballymoney in sunny n/Ireland, I originate from Manchester and I am starting a collection of bikes I used to drool over at sports motorcycles in m/cr. I already had the 59 velocette viper and have just acquired a 77 cb400/4. I use my bikes mainly for going to the many road races we have here and the manx gp. the wee Honda needs a tank as mine is rusted at the seams , a master cylinder repair kit and  the cam chain is seriously noisy, apart from a little tidying and paint she will be good to go. will be looking a lot of advice in the near future, oh and thanks to lester for the tip about this site.

Hi Viperman welcome
Avoid the 400/4 reproduction tank at David Silvers it's crap it's made out of old baked bean cans then painted with rattle cans try to find a good original one.
It's not a sohc unless it makes scary cam chain noises. ;D

400 cam chain tensioner mechanisms frequently sieze up if cam chain run loose---unfortunately its an engine out bottom case off job to fix and an aftermarket stainless mechanism as Honda have obsoleted the original
