Ive never been 100% happy with the Boyer its very voltage sensitive so I need to keep the bike on a trickle charge. Id like to go back to points to compare.

The guy in the article is Keith Newton. I believe he "borrowed" a few parts from my bike to put on YLY70H and then according to the article rebuilt my bike for his wife to ride! I'm only the 4th owner not sure if Keith bought my bike new or he was the second owner.

You're right James they must have literally been on the production line minutes apart.

Interesting reading about the early UK bikes I have vin 1015263 one up from the press bike. Mine was supplied new by Comerfords in Thames Ditton which is less than 5 miles from where the bike is now. Ive also got a copy of a MCN article dating from 1985 where the then owner of YLY 70H also owned my bike YMF11H and they are pictured together.

I bought a set of TEC shocks for my modern Bonneville 2 or 3 years ago. They stopped damping and were like pogo sticks after about 9 months. They were replaced under warranty but the replacements lasted about the same amount of time before they too lost all damping. Needles to say I replaced them with a different make. Not sure whether I’d try them again.

I agree with James they are a bugger to fit but again with a little patience (not my strong poont) and a bit of persuasion and willing they do go on. Make sure they are fully home on the flange at the head as I’ve found that makes a huge difference if one isn’t quite home

I bought a pair about 2 years or so ago for my Hinckley Bonneville. Initially I was pleased and the handling was good but after about 9 months they gave up the ghost and lost all damping. I returned them under warranty and got replacements but they too lost all damping after a similar time so I binned them. Don’t know if that was a specific issue with the type I bought or a wider issue but obviously I’d be wary of buying another set. I have fitted them in the past to a couple of sohc bikes but never used them enough or had the bikes long enough to ascertain whether they lasted.

Just a thought you mentioned that you are running a Boyer electronic ignotion. I have one on my 500 and that was a pig to start until I replaced the battery. The Boyers are very sensitive to battery voltage maybe that's your issue

My view is that it is rather expensive for a K5

Peter James for me as well think I've got about 7 bikes on cover with them.
