CB750 / Re: Tank sealer removal ?
« on: December 21, 2016, 11:07:21 AM »
Likely the tank wasn't completely dry when the paint was applied.

The virtue of, or in your case problem with, POR15 is it's indestructibility. Your best bet might be to clean the flakey stuff as much as possible, for example using gravel and agitation or perhaps blast inside, then re-seal with... more POR15. Go through the clean/etch process (assuming you will have bare metal where the stuff can be removed).

Waiting for Mick to express his reservations about MotoBatt... but I have two of them. Oldest is now 3.5yrs in the 400 and I never touch them, not even disconnecting in winter.

Last May I bought one for the VFR when the battery the PO installed new (an LP one) completely failed after 3yrs. One (or more) cells shorting and in that case even the ignition won't work after a bump start. Again, so far so good so I only have good things to say about them.

The best thing is the massive CCA, though probably all AGM (or decent modern battery) is the same.

Welcome Andy

You'll find that us 400/4 owners are the most opinionated on here - for example Julie has a Thundercat but wishes she had a VFR. My son has the 650 Bandit (this is the water cooled one) as his first big bike. Must say they are very nice to ride.

Have fun with the 250

Tricks & Tips / Re: Front brake service / set up 400/4 advice please

K2-K6 - thanks for that. I agree (and with others) the complete system is important. Not least you don't waste time/fluid addressing things separately.

As regards caliper lubrication - I intend to refurb  one of my vfrs all round and will use red rubber grease. Also interested in going with silicon fluid, so flushing technique for removing the old stuff completely is welcome.

EDIT: perhaps pumping through 2*amount of new fluid is in fact the best way?

Prob worth min £3.5K after restoration so at that price might still be something in it afterwards. Go for it.

I've got an old two stroke oil tank you can use of you want Dave. You can make a list of the stuff off mine you have  ;)

I know what it is for, as I fitted it in 1991. I think I got it off a brit bike and it was fitted after I had a serious accident to my left arm/hand to make it easier to pull the clutch in. Sold that bike in 2004.

Show-boating  ;)

Nothing to do with any boats, it was a 42 ton truck that ran me over and put the brakes on when the tractor wheels were on my arm.

I was rather referring to the notion that just about every SOHC to pass through the market seems to have had your hand on it in some way or other... ;)
