Misc / Open / Re: Cheap Spanners at Halfords
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:25:10 AM »
I can see your point if you have these size all ready, if you have not then it is a cheap way to get them.
I think they are really good tools, i have stopped buying snap-on as to many have been nicked.
My ex brother in-law used my tool box one day it was raining i came to use them a few weeks later and the lot was just sitting in water he had not keep the lid shut as it was raining and not dried any thing so a lot of my snap-on got damaged and have lost there finish, now thats why i use Halfords as not to bad if this happens again.
But i think you are missing the main point it is a cheap Xmas / birthday gift for your wife/girl friend / partner that's the main thing ! :D.

Hi I have just been on the RS paint web site and they do your colour.
It's a 3 part paint and it is not cheap. It has a lot of languages on the site so this mite help you out.
It all so means that they can send it to you as why would they do all the languages !!.

www.rsbikepaint.com  is the web site.

Hope this helps Paul

I have all so made a start on the oil tank, not going to strip all the paint off as the front face is ok and has quite thick paint on it unlike the rest of the parts. It was mostly the back that needs de-rusting and cleaning up.
I have got about 1/2 way now, just need to buy a 27mm spanner this week so i can take the oil pipes off so i can get into the space around the back of them to clean it and the pipe fittings.
I will hopefully get this done some time in the week after i get the spanner.
Till later Paul

I had to change some of the fittings, i have not reused a rivet as i could not get any that size, so i used a CSK bolt and a K-nut this dose allow allot essayer dismantelling again and refitting.
The toolbox flap screws got chewed up when i took them out so i have replace with button heads they do not look to out of place, if i come across some of the Oreg ones i can quickly replace with out to much trouble.

Well i have finished the toolbox/rear mudguard just got to refit it to the frame later.
Not to bad a finish on it plastic was quite scratched would not polish out as a
Polly-type plastic and this dose not polish up to good.

Yes thats what i was thinking when i started to clean it all up yes i would probably regret it and it would be a lot easier to keep on top of it once back on the road so thats what aim doing now.
Got the rear mudguard metal bit finished now painted and lacc on it, got some small 4mm bolts to replace the the ones that broke and sorted the other fixings ie the rivet  ones on the mudguard replace with stuff from work as had to work today.
Aim going down the Marzocchi route. NJB shocks are Girlings under a new name by a bloke that worked there i had a pair of dial a rides i think thats what they where called did not last long only about 60k before they where shot was not overly imprested with them.
The Maziss were the best i have had on a F2.
See ya Paul

Yes PatM you are right about the CX they were a all season bike i rode it all year round .
The ones that took the piss had not ridden one, i found it the most comfortable bike i have had.
I dispatched on mine, did well over 130k on it before i was taken out on the west way and put it into the back of a petrol tanker it never hit the deck just well and truly stuck in the back of the tanker took 4 coppers to get it out  ;D, me went to the Hammersmith Hospital it to a breakers  :( .
I would have one again if i could afford one after my 2 rebuilds.

Hi I have allway understood that my pipes were gen Yoshi road pipes that Dave Dixon sold i had one from him and one from some one Else that i cant remember who both the same except finish, the track use ones as far as the brain cells remembers were diffrent. I had clearance problems getting up and down kerbs/ steps all ways scraped the bottom, to park off road at the old dears place had to go up kerb and then a big step to get in and out of the garden. The lean on the left side was OK the right side less clearance i found that the main stand did not go as far up with the Yoshi fitted but once you got used to it it was OK and as Pete says you were close to the limits of the tyres in them days. Yes we should open a topic on Yoshi's as all the SOHC  cc's used them. I would be interested in some remakes if we could do it at a fair price.

Pete I clean the plastic first in gunk then wash it off then use the Foam cleaner then the All for one you have to use the all for one a few times to build up a base then polish dry with a soft cloth. do not use brake cleaner at first to degrease as it takes ages to clean the stains that it makes of the plastic thats why i now use Gunk on the plastic bits its kinder to it.

I think aim going a bit OTT on the clean up, but i have started now so it would look naff if i only did 1/2 , i am all so trying to use all the nuts bolts washers that came of the bike and if i just left them dirty they would not look right. It is all done with wire brush and Rol locs scotch brights  and sanding disc's on a black / decker and with a small bit of detail with wet /dry by hand.
Till next time Paul

That metal bit from the rear mudguard, did not take as long as i thought it would to clean up the state it was in.
More at a later date when i can find time to get on with it.

Nice bit off tangent stuff there but lets get the thread back on line.
I have done a bit more, cleaned and polished up a bit of the rear mud guard.
I have done the airbox got that back togeather just a new airfilter for that now.
I have done one front right side foot rest the left one is ready to put back togeather but i have lost the spring, it shoot off as i was cleaning it up with the wire brush in the elct drill, it hit the wall a few times its some where but still cant fined it should come across it some time.
Took the metal bit out off the top of the rear mudguard and have cleaned this up its got its undercoat on should get the top coat on  this comming sat if i do not find time in the week.

Hi It was a forced stop, a mate and i where on our way back from the Lizard Rally 1982 at the Lizard Cornwall.
We got to near to Perth and the weather turned on us so filled up with fuel at the last pet station as it was at night and no more stations open till we got to Elgin. we left Perth it was not to bad for Scotland so we carried on. It got worse and to the point that i could not see the road any more and vis was a few feet in front of the front wheel.
I found a lay by that was big ie not just a by the side of the road and we put up the tent and sat out the night. In the morning i got a lift to a phone box and called the RAC and they sent a bloke out in a landrover to pick us up we load bike and us in and the back to garage in Blair Atholl. The bike was soiled ice so it was defrosted in front of them big hot air heaters got it started and we went on our way back to Lossie late for work got in about mid day boss was ok about it. It was a big lay by northbound on the A9 just north of Dainaspidal.
