I fitted a Boyer to my 400/4 in 1992, its still in there going strong and I have never had to do anything to it once it was set. Ill be fitting another one to my project 400/4 no question.

I'm having to replace the coils and plug caps on the 400/4 project as the old ones are past it being cracked and broken. DSS has the correct? black plug caps for cylinders 2&3 but not 1&4. The price seems a bit on the expensive side though and I can only get two but need all four so I'm looking at buying a full set of black NGK's from e-bay at a third of the price. Can anyone advise of the correct NGK plug cap ordering codes, there appears to be so many all with slightly different angles?Does anyone know if I can get the coils cheaper on e-bay, DSS are charging 29.95+vat+p&p per coil? I'll post a few pics of the rebuild so far in the next few days, the engine is now complete and ready to fit into the frame and the marathon carb re-build is finally over but they are not yet tested for leaks although all the jets, needles, gaskets and o-rings have been changed throughout including the link tubes and I live in hope  Dave

Thanks for the info Chris. I think this is a case of Sod's Law in action! I bought an endoscope last Thursday on Amazon, I go into Lidl and Aldi every week to check out their deals!!!! The one I bought cost 65 pounds and is made by Teslong with a lithium battery, 3 meg camera, snapshot and record onto a supplied memory card. It had good reviews (5 star) so I just thought I'd buy it with my Christmas vouchers  . It appears to be pretty good although not used in anger yet, that will be next week when I look down the bores on my Jota (Honda Jota  ............). I'll give some feedback next week just in case anyone else is thinking of buying one. Dave

Hi there all,
Does anyone here have any experience of buying and using an endoscope on their bikes? I'm looking to buy one with the Amazon vouchers I got for Crimbo. There appears to be an amazing array of these for sale with very few having reviews!
I need to get one with a small enough camera to go down a spark plug hole to look into the combustion chamber etc so the led lamps would need to be good. Picture and video recording would be ideal. If anyone has used one and can recommend a model this would be good.

It's still nice though. I agree with you Ash, the 400/4 is undervalued. Prices seem to be stagnant compared to Dukes  . At least being low in price more folks will want to ride them and not sit looking at their 'investment'.

Welcome to the forum. I started in 1978 on a 1966 CB160. I graduated up to a CB400/4 in 1980 and have had one ever since . Good luck with the CB750.

Hello all, The multiple boxes of bits bought as a 'project' 400/4 are slowly coming together to form a motorcycle  . Whilst every box is giving up its treasures I am finding the 10% missing items are really hard to obtain! I am looking for the following items and hope someone here may have them for sale...... 3 black plastic carb idle screws covers. These are the small plastic 'covers' that fit over the brass idle screws on the side of each carb. I have one, I need another three. I thought these come as part of the carb rebuild kit, they don't, ho hum  The black plastic 'bung' that fits in the knuckle of the kickstart. It covers the open end of the knuckle where it fits over the kickstart shaft, part number is 28305-333-010, it is now unobtainable and they don't even turn up on the Antiques Roadshow anymore . If you have any of the above for sale please let me know. Dave

I joined the forum a couple of months ago and the members here are a great bunch with endless knowledge.
Good luck with the project, personally I would go for a new loom, expensive maybe in the short term but much cheaper in the long term. The last thing you need is a breakdown due to a wiring fault especially in the headstock area where all the wires meet up!

Thank you for your replies Mike and Ash.
I have taken a photo of the 'washer/spacer' and have attached it here.
The holes in the washer/spacer line up with the mounting holes of the camshaft sprocket next to it (I intend to re-use the cam sprocket as it only has a small amount of wear on the teeth unlike the camshaft itself that is completely worn out and 'lumpy' with wear). The spacer has no markings stamped on it such as 'Outside' etc.
Any thoughts, I have never seen one of these before and it appears to be 'genuine' but there is no mention of it in the Haynes, parts list or anywhere else?

Good morning all. Following a pleasant evening in the garage flitting my pistons (is there a special 'knack' or tool to refit the piston circlips, long nose pliers and swearing don't appear to work.....) I have a camshaft question that more knowledgeable folk than I could answer...... When I bought the 'project' in its various boxes the camshaft had a large washer attached to it. The camshaft lobes resembled a threepenny bit and I bought a good s/h from the US of A. Question.......should I refit the large washer, my old 400/4 didn't have this fitted, was it for an early camshaft? If I do have to refit it where should it go, camshaft flange side or the other side of the sprocket? How do I tell an 'early' camshaft that may need the large washer from a 'late' camshaft that doesn't need it? I cannot find any reference to the large washer in the Honda parts book or the Haynes manual. I have checked on the forum as well. Maybe the 'large washer' was lying around on the guy's floor and he thought it was a bit of the 400/4 jigsaw?  Hope one of the forum guru's can help . One last thing, I ordered a couple of new 'knock' bolts as they are referred to in the Honda parts book to fix the cam sprocket onto the cam, the part number has been superseded and the bolts I was supplied with by my Honda dealer are flange type, is this correct? I have just called the painter. He can paint one side panel for you with you supplying the decal for between £60-70 depending on the condition of the panel. Send the other panel as suggested for the colour match.

This is the first time I have used the company, they are actually about 40 miles from me but I took my tank and panels down on Monday so was able to see the set up and it's OK. Tony has had good reviews and is really busy so hopefully a good sign. I have been quoted 6-8 weeks turnaround but my tank was pretty bad in terms of dents and knocks.

Thank you all for the info. PM sent to Piki for a full set of decals and seat template. The painter to his credit showed me so many swatches of the blue colour it became bewildering! I think we have found a colour that is marked as 'Honda' that is 99% matched to the patch we found on my old dented tank that came in primer with the project kit of parts . Great forum full of great and wise people, thank you all for your time and patience . Dave
