CB350/400 / Re: D S Exhaust system
« on: February 19, 2018, 08:46:02 AM »
Thanks for the info, I was thinking of trying to get a second hand collector that was undamaged and getting it re chromed, would this be a better solution or am I best just going with the pattern set? Also if anyone has a set for sale that have no dents that would be suitable for re choming.

CB350/400 / D S Exhaust system
« on: February 17, 2018, 01:33:10 PM »
I have started putting my 400 four back together, when I got it it had a Motad system and I want the look of the original with the 4 sweeping pipes, I was going to buy the complete system from David Silver which works out about £625, has anyone fitted one of these and how do they look compared to a NOS system , how good is the chrome and are there any noticeable differences.

try putting a cable tie round the lever with it pulled tight and leave it overnight sometimes this lets the bubbles find their way up the pipe.

I bought a gunson easybleed like what you used to use in the 70s and I have drilled a few spare caps to fit various bikes. It works all the time with no mess, its just a bottle with fluid it is pressured with a hose which has a toggle the same as a foot pumpthat you put on the valve of a spare wheel with about 20 psi in it, another hose which goes to the bottom of the bottle so it is in the fluid with the other end fitted to your cap which you have drilled. you just pressurise the system put a bit of tube over the bleed nipple and crack it open it forces all the air and dirty fluid out, close the nipple, disconnect the pipe from the spare wheel or whatever you used and refit your original cap. It is also good for replacing old fluid .

CB350/400 / Re: Infamous front left engine mounting bolt problem
« on: February 11, 2018, 07:43:06 PM »
I just done mine last night, the bolts snapped when I was taking the engine out of the frame so I had to wedge a screwdriver between the engine and frame and cut the bolt with my air saw with half a hacksaw blade. But the problem last night was removing the captive nuts with the end of the bolt in it. What I done was drill through the nut at 90 degrees to the bolt with about a 4mm drill, I then increased it 1mm at a time until it split the nut and cut threw the bolt I dug it out with a screwdriver and hammered the remaining bit of bolt into the hole and it came out the other side. CB350/400 / Rear sprocket tab washers
« on: February 09, 2018, 06:02:03 PM »
On rebuilding my back wheel I was fitting the new rear sprocket, according to the Haynes manual there are 2 double tab washers holding the 4 sprocket nuts. The Honda parts book does not show these, and I cant find them anywhere, I was going to fit 4 nylocs but would far prefer locking tabs, does anyone know what ones are the same and where to get them.

Just looked and I'm not convinced now that I got this one from Timpsons, possibly off eBay.
Colour match is spot on, sort of a whitish silver looks very good in my mind.
Sorry, not very clear pic but the colour is called Silver / Argent 312/20

Thanks I've just ordered some from ebay.

You say to use the silver paint from Timpsons is this the correct colour I thought white or off white would be closer does the silver look better?

Sounds straight forward enough I want to polish each carb, and clean them in my ultrasonic cleaner I assume I will just balance them statically and tweak them with the  carbtune when I get the bike running, fiddly is not a problem fixing clocks is another one of my hobby's, once the carbs are seperated Im sure they will just be the same to strip as any other carburetor.

Were the carbs straight forward enough to strip right down to individual carbs for cleaning ect and puting back together, as I am ready to do mine, I have the luxury of a spare bank which I think will come in hand when rebuilding them as a reference.

That hole in the frame looks as it comes from water sitting in between the plastic mudguard and frame mine was rusty at the same bit on the left hand side it will be caused by the bike sitting on the side stand thats why most of the rust is on the left side.

At least Im keeping this bike and it should be worth about what im spending on it, I restored a wee GT125 last year and before I knew it I had spent £3000  plus all my labour and ended up selling it for £2400 as thats all it was worth someone got a nice 125 out of it though. It isnt any cheaper restoring a smaller bike if you only work to one standard.

That included the £800 for the bike but every year now I start buying about 2 or 3 hundred pounds worth of parts at the start of the year to take the sting out of it when winter comes but if I didn't spend it on parts it would be squandered at least I have usable assets I now have an immaculate H1 , GT 750 and I will have a 4 four by the end of the Winter.
