CB350/400 / Carb Jet sizes
« on: March 13, 2018, 06:55:55 AM »
I'm just about ready to overhaul my carbs, my bike had a Motad 4 into 1 fitted from what I can remember Motad olways advertised that you don't need to up your jets. I have managed to procure a standard set of headers which I am getting rechromed and I have got a Marshal deep tone tailpipe which is what I wanted as it is the same as what I had in 1982 ( my profile picture) does anyone have any ideas of what size of jets I should fit as for obvious reasons I don't want to be pulling the carbs on and off.

Im looking for input from anyone who has recently had a set of exhaust headers rechromed. Ive decided to go the direction of getting a second hand set rechromed rather than buying a new pattern set from DS, as I have heard of various problems, I have used Agbrigg in Leeds in the past to do one of my other bikes and the chrome seems to be wearing well and he turnred it around in about 4-5 weeks which is good. He quoted me between £250- 300 to do a set which I think probably would be the going rate these days, Who would anyone recommend.

I got a set of butted spokes and rims cwc stainless from Central and built them myself, it was about £380 for both wheels I also have a set on my H! and I used their spokes with the original Takasko rims on my GT750 all very good.

Yes..spot welds x 3 on originals but not so sure that 500/4 pipes made by DS/CMS  may have a different arrangement but still double skinned. So why the hell are there no double skinned 400/4 ones (of course I may be out of touch and they are available now ... but Yamiya still showing 'single skin' when I checked this morning).

Just to ask where about is the 3 spot welds so I can tell the difference in a picture.

I like the bit about not powder coating the inside of the engine, :D :D Im sure someone has done it, but my Guy has done many bike engines, he masks it for blasting then cleans it all and remasks it for the spaying of the powder coat ,I have no worries about him covering anything that shouldn't be done.

I use a piece of paracord (like the string on blinds) I make it into a loop , hook it over the spring , put my foot in the bottom of the loop and push down with my foot to stretch the spring it is especially good for putting the spring on you just then cut the string and pull it out.

I've bought a set from another forum member, that needs a small repair, I phoned Sean at Agbrigg to ask about rechroming , he said about £250 to £300 I have used him in the past when I done my GT750 and he done a good job and turned it around in about 4 weeks. What recommendations does anyone have for chromers does that price sound about right who has other people used and got good results from, I would prefer someone who can turn them around in a reasonable time as I should have the bike finished for about the start of May.

Have you used the David Silver stuff I used Plastim Barbacue paint in the past satin black and it was good, what do you recon with the DS 200 degrees for 2 hours after painting or leave it a day before baking.

I spoke to my powder coater and he seems quite happy to do it he has done lots of parts for me and is very good with the masking and knowing where to leave uncoated  I have not decided yet I may just do it with VHT and bake them in the oven when the Missus is out, I have that paint from DS has anyone used it and is it any good?

CB350/400 / Powder coat Engine parts

I have My engine stripped down and I am wondering what to do with the crank cases, I am going to polish the outer casings, I know that's not the way they were done originally they were painted, but I like shiny things. My question is has anyone ever powder coated their crank cases, I have a guy who has done all of my powder coating for years and he is very good. I am wary about getting the crankcases done and also I would need to match the colour when I was painting the top end of the engine, I would be grateful for some input.

I was looking for the damper rubbers for my primary drive, they are down on the parts list as 2314-323-000 when checking DS he has none listed against the 400f but has them for a 550 with the same part number, is this correct or where is the best place to get them from.
