Yes Bryan  - I remember calling him in 1986  when he worked from home  selling bits part time and sold his first  batch of  NOS Honda parts via an advert in MCN. Nice bloke. Both front and rear mudguards for 400/4 were £10 each and complete caliper with pads was £12, control switches £6 ea.  This was pre-Internet and in '86 it was very hard to get NOS parts. Then sometime notmuch later Honda slashed its exhaust prices for some reason  and started selling new seats again. Happy days!!
From the article it  looks like he has now got the Sardine Blue  CB250SS (K0) from James May's 'Man Lab' Evidently traded it for a CX500 !!
Another place which sold NOS parts off cheap around that time was Queens Park Motors in Salford, I think they were a main Honda Dealer but sold off NOS  parts occasionally.

If the article is correct the replica CB750K0 HM300's he is selling are made by Yamiya in Japan. If so will it  save on high shipping costs / customs charges when you buy them direct . Wonder if he is going to stock their Ducktail seats and covers? The ones they currently sell I think are made by 'bobtheseat' (Moretti) in Stroud UK.

Hi, The really comprehensive parts manual I have  from '69, specific to the SS or K0 model, lists them fitted to all but the UK market. I too had a K2 (1970), K3 (1971) and 350K4 (1973)  in the 70's and they all had them fitted but I don't think the early K0's had them. There is no sign of them being fitted to the parts bike I  have. I really like the K0 with the knee pad tank, chrome chainguard , hot cam and steering damper. Problem is some parts are rare (just like my 750K0) and the tanks are a favourite among cafe racer builders. Also the engines are sought after by classic racer fraternity. The Japanese domestic market bike from '68 had a CB72/CB77 style tank and oval combined instruments. Never  seen one in the 'flesh' though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJoKeWg6Ljc

We never got the K1 here and sadly we never got the Candy blue/green and white in the UK, we had to make do with 'Sardine Blue' and white . Mine is candy red and white two tone.
Hmm - just looked at the K0 on James May's Man Lab (Sardine Blue one) and it has indicators - maybe they were not fitted in early production and fitted in late production, or as the guy on the US site says possibly an optional extra.

Can anyone on here answer my question on my CB250SS (K0) resto  posted on the Honda twins.net  forum please?
The 250SS K0 is proving to be pretty rare.

Don't want to hijack thread so please request I  move this SteveD, if necessary. The Service Bulletins were on the internet but must  have been removed due to copywrite  issues. The SB was no 15, (see below '750 #15   4-70   Throttle Cable Recall') I think there were issues with the cable jumping out of the carb top and increasing engine revs but I may not be exactly correct. Real shame those SB's were removed!

All I can find regarding SB#15 is "This bulletin covers the replacement under warranty of the throttle valves / cables on machines up to frame number 1017342, and the rear wheel dampers on machines up to frame number 1016997. It requires that after replacement of the rear wheel dampers, that three centre-punch marks are made on the rear wheel flange just outboard of the driven sprocket.
is this"

+1  Please don't take offence!! Fitting them for originality is fine, a concourse bike will probably never see much wet weather anyway. To my knowledge  there wasn't a safety  recall on them by Honda. On all of the bikes I had, they had been removed so I can't speak from personal experience how bad they were in the wet. However, parts on the sandcast 750 which WERE safety recall (e.g. carb tops) items are sought after, for refitting - scary, but that's just my view unless they are just used as museum pieces.
Please keep posting -- this is a very  :)  friendly forum !!!!

Around 1969 the H1 Kawasaki was fitted with the first CDI which evidently interfered with TV's as the bike rode past.
The metal cover was probably intended to eliminate the RFI created when the plug sparks (the internal resistor in the plug cap reduces this too). The manufacturer's were probably more bothered about eliminating RFI than they  were preventing their bikes cutting out in wet weather !!!
This is the reason I believed those metal contraptions existed. I didn't give a sh1t if your TV buzzzed when I zoomed past.  ;D

I know, in the late 70's I worked for a large company and it was all doom and gloom about redundancies and everyone was moping around doing nothing but look miserable. I though boll***s to this and gainfully employed myself for a week designing and building a CDI system for my 1st 400/4. It basically inverted the 12v to 400 VDC, then charged a  0.5uF capacitor to 400v and discharged this using a thyristor   across the coil each time the standard contact breaker operated. It took a bit of perfecting though, the first attempt nearly blew up the silencer when it misfired!  It ran great for the next 20k miles (apart from 1 capacitor failure - these were the type used in old Pye valve colour TV sets and I uprated from 600v, to 1,000v type, as they did in the TV design). It was still fitted when I sold it (in the tool tray ) and the original points still looked like new. BUT -  god knows what the RFI was like!!  and yes I did not have the crappy tin covers on. Wonder if its still fitted, as the bike is still out there and was licensed last time I checked XDN128R. I can still hear those twin inverters, 1 for each coil, singing together now!

Also this one on chain damage due to battery acid. Like their demo on how to prove the theory. Bet that wouldn't wash in these days of health and safety !!

« on: December 09, 2013, 07:43:54 PM »
Cheers Pete,

Really sorry for not posting. Had all sorts of problems mainly related to the company I work for (3-days/week) over past 18 months, previously owned by my brother. I  won't go into the details but it severely affected my mental  health - big style. My bike projects remain in a million parts in my garage. Having time to ponder and feeling much better, I now realize I became totally obsessed with piddly little K0 details (wrinkle tanks, two hole hubs, correct rims etc). I have decided that I will just build the bike with what I have and then it will at least get finished and not just languish unloved in a pile of parts.  At least I have a set of NOS set of HM300's tucked away in the loft which only cost me £525 inc. from DSS :) .
The '75 400/4 lies in the depths of the garage fully  restored but unloved since 1986! The CB250K0, I am still keen to finish some time and to be fair if I had any three of them on the road it would be the one I would probably use most but I almost sold the parts I have last year. Problem I found with 750K0 parts is that it is so easy to get stuffed with crappy parts, sold by people who think they are correct or in good condition and end up being something only suitable for the local tip.
I have looked at your resto threads and wow that looks like it's going to be one hell of an original bike when complete, so pleased you found one, as I knew you had the urge to get the bug !

Apologies  to everyone for lack of posts but I hope you can hopefully understand my predicament, I will try to keep in touch now !!

What happened to Jock (bobthebuilder) 750K0? I note he now has a CD175 'sloper - I have a nice pic somewhere of my GF,  now wife on my grey one, will post on Photobucket if I can find it.

Cheers for now,
AshD
