CB750 / swing arm grease nipples
« on: January 12, 2015, 01:15:55 PM »
As I have rebuilt the swing arm, changed bearings and powder coat, renewed dust seals and caps etc, I bought two replacement grease nipples incase of ware and blockages etc.
However in my ignorance I assumed these screwed in but as the picture shows there are no threads.
How do I get the old ones out and fit new ones without a thread?

CB750 / chrome ring on front forks
« on: January 03, 2015, 09:53:57 AM »
I have almost rebuilt both forks now, just this chrome ring which is not obvious to me what the function is.
Firstly is it this way up?
Secondly when fitting do you push it over the rubber gator, attach gator  then push up into the bottom of the chrome ear to keep the gator on?
Or is it just for looks?
Help much appreciated as usual !

CB750 / cushion fork cover part number 51622292010 cb 750 k4
« on: December 31, 2014, 01:08:00 PM »
I cannot remember where this goes exactly. On the pictures in the haynes manual shown it would just ride down the fork under the gator? This is with the taper up underneath the chrome shroud.
I tried it in the opening inside the shroud but cant get it on the yolk then, although it would stop rain getting inside?
Any help much appreciated.

CB750 / k4 fork oil amount
« on: December 31, 2014, 10:16:36 AM »
As usual I'm in need of advice from you guys again.
In the Haynes manual it states that the dry fill cc or mill's of 10w/30 for the forks should be no more than 155. This doesn't seem much and there are other opinions on the net of 235mm.
Obviously theres a lot of people on here who have done this job - maybe not on a k4 particularly- and I would love your opinion before I complete the job after refurbishing the forks and seals.

CB750 / k4 fork seals
« on: December 12, 2014, 10:21:30 AM »
Can anyone tell me which way up these go?
Each picture is a different way up.
If the right way is with the ridge at the top on the outside, then the chamfered edge would be slightly smaller on the inside at the top.
Hope you can understand my comments !

CB750 / front pipe fork - chrome condition
« on: December 09, 2014, 02:02:22 PM »
After removing the gators to replace the fork seals on my usa k4 I noticed scouring on the chrome pipe forks. After further inspection and removing the cushion fork covers, I could see why.
Someone in the past had added a chrome washer underneath the circlip on each fork. As this did not belong it has moved about over the years and scoured the chrome.
My question is when do these become illegal to ride/use? As long as the new seals do their job is it ok to continue using them as at £260 each I don't want to replace if not necessary.

Secondly, can anyone tell me the correct way up for the new fork seals? Taking the old out destroyed them and other than a slight hump on one end they look exactly the same either way up.
Thanks
Antony

CB750 / NEW SPEEDO AND TACHO SET
« on: October 07, 2014, 10:09:02 PM »
http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB750K4-FOUR-1974-USA/part_105757/

i've heard in the past these are not as good as the originals and fail to work after a while. Has anyone any REAL experience of them?
Unfortunately my originals are dinted in every place you can think of - the chrome , the black outer shrouds and rubbers perished, glass scuffed and dials faded.

it will take a lot of money to refurbish. Is it really worth it?
These certainly look good???

CB750 / powder coating how many parts?
« on: October 03, 2014, 10:05:58 PM »
Well I have decided to powder coat in black although I'm tempted to match the colour of the tank but not sure it's the right thing to do.
Anyway how far do you go with this? I can imagine sending the frame and swing arm but do you send both yolks and what about the battery box and back brake arm?
What about the foot pegs?

I'm sure you will all have experience of this so looking forward to the replies.
Also been warned about the tag on the frame could get blown off in the process and devalue the bike without it??

CB750 / screws and bolts
« on: October 02, 2014, 11:52:00 PM »
I know you can buy bolts and screws which are original from people such as DSS etc but they charge a premium for not a lot and of course the delivery fiver on top.
Where can you get these locally in uk for a more reasonable price which arnt particularly for Honda? After all an hexagonal bolt is just that nothing special about it. The problem is they dont quote thread sizes on the sites. For example I want the screws for the seat lock 93600060160G  but it just says 6x16 flat screw which doesnt help much without the thread size.
Obviously I will have to buy the chrome head ones from DSS etc but the stainless must be a bog standard ?

CB750 / steering stem bearings
« on: October 02, 2014, 03:43:57 PM »
I've just removed the top and bottom yolk, front forks(cb 750k4 usa) ready for the frame to go to be powder coated. The manual says the bearings may fall out and so they did!
These are loose ball bearings which I didn't realise. My question is do I have to replace like for like or is there a modern sealed alternative I can use?
Secondly the top of each fork sealed behind the chrome shroud is very rusty. Was this area never chromed and is it ok the way it is. The area behind the gators is chrome and in good condition and the seals are not leaking. ;)

CB750 / refurb original tacho and speedo or get shiny new?
« on: April 26, 2014, 08:07:53 AM »
Just been looking at my original set and what a mess. Looks like the chrome, steel cover and rubber mounts are all dinted/ degraded. The dials are also faded.
I know you can get kits to refurb' these to a good standard but d.s.spares are selling a  brand new complete set for not much more than the kits to refurb - so is it worth the hassle?

Also what do you do about the original mileage when I register the bike if I do get new ones?

CB750 / wheels and which tyres?
« on: April 25, 2014, 11:57:29 PM »
I am having my wheels rebuilt at Jones restoration (part of everythingbutbikes) in Chester. I obviously need tyres as I have no idea what age the originals were so can't trust them.
David Silver are advertising Maxxis at a reasonable price and my surfing the web says the're a more than adequate tyre.
Has anyone an opinion on these or even which they feel are a good enough tyre?
My logic is a classic bike won't be used every day so top quality possibly isn't necessary - as long as the ones used don't compromise on safety of course !
look forward to your comments.

CB750 / to powder coat or not ?
« on: April 18, 2014, 11:29:34 PM »
Well everything is off the frame now on my k4 and because it's been in americy all it's life the condition of the frame is excellent - except for the battery box which needs repainting or spraying.

So my question is as the title says. Do I conform just because everyone else does ?
I've heard it can be a nightmare afterwards on rebuilds because of paint filling screw and bolt holes etc let alone the expense.
