The CB 360 headlight is the same as (Or at least very similar to) the CB 400-4 one. There should be plenty of those around!

I’m very happy with my M900 Monsters, but very different from the Honda 4s to ride.

An interesting alternative to the Monster is the Cagiva Elefant, provided you are reasonably long in the leg.

In the 70s the tax disc colours ran in a four year cycle of brown, green, red, blue.
From that limited choice of colours it looks like a blue one to me, which could indeed be 1973 expiry (Or '69, or '77).
March '73 expiry gets my vote.
But am I right in thinking you could tax for three months back then?

You may need another tube of Autosol to get the shine back?

Hi Boxie.
Any development on this?
A few questions in my mind are:
You say it only started squeeling when you got it to run on both cylinders. Does it stop squeeling if you take a plug lead off?
Left, right or both?
Does it make the noise in gear (On centre standard), or only in neutral?
Does it stop squeeling when you pull the clutch in?
This may narrow it down to output part of gearbox, or engine.
What did you take off or move to get it to run?  I would repeat the process looking for marks or signs of heat.

Have you had the clutch cover off by any chance, oil pump drive sits under there and easy to not refit it correctly and it stops the pump working, that was on the CJ250 which I think is the same engine, don't ask me how I know this it gets embarrassing.

Yes, same engine, but with starter motor and 6th gear left off.

If pump drive not engaged properly you can't pull the clutch cover tight on the gasket, which is something I'd prefer not to have discovered!

If you suspect the cam isn't getting enough oil you should pull the cam cover off and turn the engine over by hand until oil appears [Or not] as the cam bearings don't last very long at all if spinning dry.

That wrote off a lot of G5s back in the 70s as repair was prohibitively expensive!

The original Jock Kerr 605 conversion used modified 750 pistons with the liners very thin, i had one of those as well and the liners broke!

My recollection was that he used modified CB 350 K4 pistons?

Isn't the 3.5 X 18 rear tyre on a 400/4 (Or CB360 G5) the same width as the 3.5 X 18 tyre on a CB500-4?

Though I used to prefer a 4.25/85 X 18 TT100 on the 500.

Hi all

Just a quick question.

Did the 1976 400 4 come with cast wheels ?

Thanks

Not unless it was one of the Harrier specials put together by one of the dealers (Mocheck?) with Lester (Or was is it CMA?) Alloys, a small nose fairing, white paint and a 2/4 seat iirc?

May have also been 460cc?

CB500/550 / Re: Anyone after a CB550 K3 tank?
« on: February 21, 2017, 10:56:47 PM »
I don't need one, but is it just the tank, or does it include filler flap, cap, badges, chrome trim and/or petrol tap?
Original brown paint isn't the most desirable, but may be wanted by some.
Even if it's to be repainted, a bare undented tank seems to be going for £100 plus.

CB750 / Re: Cam! Would you put this in your engine ?

That would "clean up" the cam bearings and rocker faces nicely.

Give the oil pump screen a nice festive glitter effect too..... ;)

You can buy second hand dishwashers on Gumtree or eBay for £10, so why take a chance on the one in the house?  At that price, use it on a few small items first, then give everything a wash once you know what effect it has on parts.
We expect feedback though, with recommendations on which tablets give best results.  :D

Do you want me to remove my vote for a 500-4 then?

It has moved on slightly since the avatar photo was taken ten years ago, but not a lot.......
