CB350/400 / battery drain
« on: August 28, 2019, 07:56:43 AM »
Hi All,
I have an issue with my 400/4 where the battery will become discharged if left unused for more than 3 days.
Brand new motobatt battery, aftermarket regulator/rectifier fitted.
Good voltage from regulator when running.
Not sure where to start looking!
Any ideas?

CB350/400 / 400/4 struggles to pick up when warm
« on: August 10, 2018, 06:34:12 AM »
Hi All,
Nearly finished finding my way round some of the problems with my 400/4 build.
Just had carbs professionally set up and balanced and the timing set correctly.
However i still have the issue that once the bike has warmed up (10 minutes of good riding) the bike will struggle to pick up from low revs.
open the throttle too fast and it will bog down and die.
needs to be slowly feathered up to around 3000 rpm before it will run smoothly again.
It's fine once going but around town or when stopping it makes it a right pain to ride.

Any ideas where i start looking for the cause of the problem?
something electrical would be my first guess but don't know where to start looking and checking.

Cheers
Adrian

CB350/400 / Decal positions
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:23:45 PM »
Hi all.
I've lost my sheet of paper on which i wrote down the positioning of the decals for the tank and side panels for my 400-4 f1.
Would anyone be kind enough to measure the decal positions for the tank from the front edge and bottom and for the side panels from the front edge and top.

CB350/400 / 400/4 no spark
« on: April 13, 2018, 08:15:25 PM »
Hi All,
I can't get a spark out of my newly built 400/4.
have fitted new points and condensers, set gaps and timing.
Get spark at the points but not from the plugs.
Have checked 12v at black white wire on coils, earthing from coils to frame and continuity of the blue and yellow wires to the points. checked and changed plug caps to no effect. Have also checked engine kill circuit and neutral switch. Starter motor works OK.
Coils are getting warm so assume they are getting power.
Apart from this i do not know how to check the coils themselves.

What am I missing??
TIA

CB350/400 / 400/4 Frame Ground points
« on: April 01, 2018, 07:26:43 AM »
Hi all,
Finally assembling my basket case 400/4.
I had the frame powder coated but now need to know where to remove the powder coating from to ensure all electrical components are grounded properly.
Does anyone have a list of the locations or a diagram would be even better?
Also had the airbox/ electrical mount assembly powder coated are there points here that need to be cleaned back as well?
TIA

CB350/400 / Rear wheel offsets
« on: October 19, 2017, 06:10:29 PM »
Can someone please let me know the rim offsets on the rear wheel for a 1976 cb400f? A photo of the spoke pattern would also be extremely useful.

CB750 / new chain and sprocket vibes
« on: August 21, 2017, 04:13:03 PM »
Hi All,
Recently changed the chain and sprocket on my CB750F1 / F2 mongrel (F2 engine and wheels).
Ran nice and smoth no vibrations before but had the F1 530 chain and sprocket setup with an 17 / 40 (8 tooth undersize) rear sprocket combo.
Changed up to the F2 spec 630 chain and sprocket 15 / 41 tooth combo and now have vibrations at 4,500 - 6500 rpm.
Any ideas??

CB350/400 / 400/4 'O'ring list or kit
« on: June 12, 2017, 08:28:27 AM »
Hi All,
currently rebuilding a 75 400/4 engine.
A top end strip so far shows no problems apart from rock hard 'O' rings throughout.
Does anyone have a list or sell a kit of the 'o'rings that are not included in the standard full gasket kit?

Cheers

CB750 / cb750 gearbox issue
« on: May 31, 2017, 01:52:32 PM »
Hi All,
have an issue with my friends CB750.
Was all working fine but now the problem is that it will only go into 1st & 2nd gear.
Its like you are in top after that with it hitting a stop when you try to go into 3rd - any ideas?
This happens even without the engine running.
Thanks all

CB750 / CR carb issues CR750
« on: May 13, 2017, 03:32:19 PM »
Hi All,
Just finished rebuilding the engine for a friends CR750.
All up together and would not start.
Traced to blocked jets in the carbs.
I removed all the jets and cleaned them out but now have petrol coming out from the overflow holes as marked in the picture below.
Floats valves still shut off manually so not sure if floats have perished or somehow the levels have changed.

So is there anyone who services these carbs in the UK?
Looking for a quick turnaround as he wants to take it to the classic TT in a couple of weeks.

Thanks All

CB750 / Runs on 3 after standing
« on: May 08, 2017, 04:52:58 PM »
Hi All,
Have an issue with my cb750.
If left for a week in the garage it will only run on 3 cylinders (number one not firing).
If ridden and then left to stand for 20 - 30 minutes it will start up and run on all 4 cylinders.
Pretty sure the carbs are good so maybe electrical based.
It has killed a spark plug on this cylinder already. totally dead, no spark at all!
Any ideas?

Cheers

CB750 / F1 carbs on an F2 engine
« on: March 29, 2017, 09:58:18 AM »
Hi All,
I'm running an F2 engine with F1 carbs, marshall exhaust and cone filters.
Do i need to change the jetting at all to get the best performance from the F2 engine?
It seems to be running rich with the needle in middle position, #40PJ and #115 MJ.
Also if left standing for 2weeks it will inevitably only run on 3 cylinders until you remove the jets from the offending carb and blow them through.
Looking for a UK source for main and pilot jets if it works out cheaper than buyng the carb rebuid kits form DSS.
Thanks
Adrian

Misc / Open / Insurance CB750F1
« on: February 27, 2017, 03:00:45 PM »
Hi all,
who do you use for insurance?
Most of hte major sites dont seem to list the 1976 cb750f1 and even the advisors have trouble tracking the correct bike down.
Just had a quote of £400 for that and my 2004 Triumph Thruxton.
seems very steep to me considering i only pay £150 fully comp for my Thruxton by itself!

CB750 / oil pump rebuild
« on: December 26, 2016, 06:41:40 AM »
I rebuilt my oil pump alongside my engine rebuild.
I now cannot get any oil up to the main gallery.
The scavenge side of the pump is working well as it picked up the pint of oil i tipped down the rocker cover and deposited it back in the tank.
But what ever i do i cannot seem to get any thing from the pressure side of the pump.
Is it possible to put the rotors back together wrong?
I know i matched the dots on each pair of rotors with both facing upwards during assembly.
The pressure relief valve moves easily, maybe a little to easily but still has pressure against it.

Any ideas anyone??
