CB750 / Re: new chain and sprocket vibes

Out of interest how did you retain the F1 engine sprocket as they have the splined tab with 2 bolts in the groove machined into the output shaft?
It was secured in the same way as the f2 one witj a penny washer on the end of the shaft.

You were right Royhall, had the sprocket round the wrong way, chain has worn a small groove in the lower engine cases but should be OK still.
Also have seen some rubbing on the sprocket engine cover.
Hoping all will be OK otherwise i'll be switching back to the the 530 chain setup.

Out of interest does the chain retaining bolt have a special washer? Mine just has a m8 penny washer on it and the sprocket still has some movement in it is this correct?

CB750 / new chain and sprocket vibes
« on: August 21, 2017, 04:13:03 PM »
Hi All,
Recently changed the chain and sprocket on my CB750F1 / F2 mongrel (F2 engine and wheels).
Ran nice and smoth no vibrations before but had the F1 530 chain and sprocket setup with an 17 / 40 (8 tooth undersize) rear sprocket combo.
Changed up to the F2 spec 630 chain and sprocket 15 / 41 tooth combo and now have vibrations at 4,500 - 6500 rpm.
Any ideas??

CB750 / Re: Advice on engine problem
« on: July 06, 2017, 03:55:34 PM »
Looks like a carb setup issue to me.
Running way too rich.
Are you running the standard airbox or pods?
Had it on mine a couple of times until run in.
Once was a stuck float valve, another a blocked idle jet and the other time was because the plugs soot up and won't spark through the carbon buildup.
Could also be plug caps or coils.
Also at only 350 miles it's not yet run in.
Needs 500 - 750 miles for everything to be settled in properly.
Once at 750 miles make sure you do an oil change.

I had this problem once.
Turned out I'd fitted the seal upside down.
LOL!

Perfect Andut,
Just what i was After!
Theres nothing worse when ordering from DSS and you think you have everything and find that one crucial 'o' ring missing from the gasket kit that holds your build up for a week.
Thank you very much! :-)

CB350/400 / 400/4 'O'ring list or kit
« on: June 12, 2017, 08:28:27 AM »
Hi All,
currently rebuilding a 75 400/4 engine.
A top end strip so far shows no problems apart from rock hard 'O' rings throughout.
Does anyone have a list or sell a kit of the 'o'rings that are not included in the standard full gasket kit?

Cheers

Adrian

CB750 / cb750 gearbox issue
« on: May 31, 2017, 01:52:32 PM »
Hi All,
have an issue with my friends CB750.
Was all working fine but now the problem is that it will only go into 1st & 2nd gear.
Its like you are in top after that with it hitting a stop when you try to go into 3rd - any ideas?
This happens even without the engine running.
Thanks all
Adrian

CB750 / Re: HEAD GASKET
« on: May 31, 2017, 12:19:56 PM »
I had the same issue recently.
I ended up drilling the clearance holes out very carefully as whoever had bulit the engine before me had fitted as standard and squashed all the rubbers underneath the gasket. no wonder it leaked before!
To drill out get 2 plates of aluminum made up with a 17mm hole drilled through and bolted together at both ends. place gasket in between line up the hole in the gasket you need to enlarge and drill through.
Remove any burrs from around the hole and hey presto. sorted.
Just need a bit of bravado and belief to drill into a £50 head gasket!

CB750 / CR carb issues CR750
« on: May 13, 2017, 03:32:19 PM »
Hi All,
Just finished rebuilding the engine for a friends CR750.
All up together and would not start.
Traced to blocked jets in the carbs.
I removed all the jets and cleaned them out but now have petrol coming out from the overflow holes as marked in the picture below.
Floats valves still shut off manually so not sure if floats have perished or somehow the levels have changed.

So is there anyone who services these carbs in the UK?
Looking for a quick turnaround as he wants to take it to the classic TT in a couple of weeks.

Thanks All

Hi Spitfire,
I think you may have cracked it.
Mine has been running rich. Will keep an eye on the plug condition for the next few weeks to confirm it.

CB750 / Runs on 3 after standing
« on: May 08, 2017, 04:52:58 PM »
Hi All,
Have an issue with my cb750.
If left for a week in the garage it will only run on 3 cylinders (number one not firing).
If ridden and then left to stand for 20 - 30 minutes it will start up and run on all 4 cylinders.
Pretty sure the carbs are good so maybe electrical based.
It has killed a spark plug on this cylinder already. totally dead, no spark at all!
Any ideas?

Cheers
Adrian
