Title: Honda CB750 F1 cafe racer seat ?
Post by: bluemouse1006 on October 19, 2012, 03:33:40 PM
Hi
Anyone fitted a cafe racer single seat on a F1 ? I've managed to find a link on here from some one who bought one for a K5 from bob the seat on EBay . I've contacted him and he says that he has sold plenty to people with F1s but he makes them for K bikes .
I also have a K5 with the seat hinge on the opposite side that on my F1 frame
Presume these can be moved and rewelded ?

Thought here would be the best place to ask

Thanks
Amos

Not fitted one to mine but I would have thought anything is possible if you are happy cutting and welding. The F1 hinge would certainly be easy enough to swap over if needed, the lock less so but do-able, just check there are no plastic parts in there before welding! Think the F frame is longer too? so check measurements before you buy or you may find you have to cut off a bit of frame too.

Hi
I've just received my seat from Vonzetti I haven't seen it yet because I am in the Irish Sea on a oil rig my girlfriend says it looks very well made !!!
When I ordered the seat they sent me pics of it fitted to a 750 no need for frame cutting just need to make up some monts and either weld them on or bolt them on.
Very nice people to deal with and they can make it in most colours I went for coloured stitching and piping.
When I get home I will post some pics !!!!

Regards
 Stu

That does look very good Yoshi, didyou say you used a 900 front fork on it?

Be interesting to see your cafe seat when you get back to it stu.

Hi Folks, heres a few pics of my seat i am going to fit,

I probably will have to cut the rear part of the frame and weld on a loop and make up some brackets to line up with the 4 mounting bolts, watch this space !!!!

Its really well made good sturdy fibreglass, really well made seat unit which unbolts from the tray also there should be plenty of room under the hump to hide away some of the electrics,i got it directly from Vonzetti instead of going through ebay,it cost me £200 and they do all colours of stitching piping,

Regards Stuart

That does look very good Yoshi, didyou say you used a 900 front fork on it?

I ended up fitting 35mm forks from a CBX1000Z which gave me plenty of room to mess around with front height as i'd fitted some rear shocks from a CB900/CBX1000 as well, which are a good 30mm longer than standard 750F2 shocks & gave much better ground clearance.

That looks like a nicely made unit stu, think you're right that it would be best integrated with a frame loop to match to seat profile. It's heading toward more of a "British" cafe racer look with that profile I guess which mostly fitted round a looped rear frame.

That's interesting Yoshi as you seem to have been way ahead of the design curve there in that people making specials for decades have gone for a lowering of the center-of-gravity as you've raised it........which is what they are all doing now in Moto-Gp as they corner faster this way especially with the sort of tyres used now.

I wanted more ground clearance as the sticky tyres available in the early '80s were nothing by comparison to todays. But as the development of my 750 Special progressed I had some wider rim CMAs specially made so that I could fit Metzeler Comp K tyres in a wider fitment ie. a 160x18 ME1 rear and a 110x18 ME33 front. With the uprated suspension it handled really well, regularly outcornering more modern bikes.

Hi Amos I'm going to cut the rear section of weld in a loop and make 2 brackets that fit across the frame so I can bolt it down using the 4 bolts under the seat as in picture !
If you go on eBay and type in Vonzetti it will come up I just messaged them through eBay then dealt with them through PayPal hope this helps and when I get it done I'll post pics

Cheers
